I agree it had started much earlier .. as you say for reasons of 'Moral Hygiene'. It worked too. Boys were never caught masterbating again after the surgery! My understanding is that it was 'popularised' after a huge 'Health Scare' brought on by a statistic from New York Cities famous 'Cedar Sinai' hospital which showed Jewish boys had less a percentage of certain penis ailments. This caused a tremendous national 'panic' to get all boys 'innoculated' like the Jewish boys were presumably already done. I'm circumcised. I guess it would be nice to feel the difference but in the end I don't really care. I think I read somewhere where 80% of the world's males are "turtle necks" and the other 20% are "doorknobs".
