Between watching the flat earth documentary which features some segments in California and learning about Heaven's Gate cult within the past year, I've come to the realization we have some kooky people out here.
There are 2 experiments performed with legitimate equipment by flat Earthers in that documentary, one of which cost them upwards of $25,000 and both failed. One of the people involved in one of the experiments concedes that he didn't realize the rigor involved in setting up properly controlled experiments. It's interesting because once their tests fail they automatically try and go on to devise a different test to prove their ideas. They are basically attempting to invert the scientific method, form a conclusion and then attempt to devise a way to prove that. There's some scientists and psychiatrists interviewed describing the various techniques and biases the flat earther's use. I'm not sure at what point they would come to the conclusion it's not a good idea. I actually think the scientists interviewed in the film are way too apologetic about this stuff. There are also different sects of flat earthers apparently, there is the dome one like you mention but then there is another one where as I understand it the Earth like recurs or something once the edge is reached and one of the proponents of that view is calling the main proponent of the dome one and some of the people he's associated with CIA operatives and so it's like a meta conspiracy theory, pretty wild stuff.
I'm gonna assume you're joking here. Btw, NASA doesn't say the Earth is a perfect global it says it's an oblate spheroid.
I honestly don't know what our Earth looks like but I also don't believe we are flying through space. I think what we are on is a mostly flat surface while there is something of a dome or firmament above us and something below us. I think it would look somewhat like an egg?
Having a differing opinion is not what is facepalmed. That the earth is a sphere instead of flat can be verified. Question everything is a worthy principle to live by, but if you stop there instead of going to the next phase of questioning everything, namely verify the factual stuff, its mainly an excuse to reject the verifiable.
I don't believe that it is verifiable. We are told to just believe it and anybody who questions it is just wrong and from other studies I have read it comes to a different conclusion. Science is not always accurate and at times wrong. I'm sorry but it is in my opinion that it is not a sphere and if it is a sphere it is not the way they describe it.
I'm the type of person that I need to see it to believe it. I can't just take someones word for it and just roll with it. Like I have said before I really don't know what it looks like and it very well could be spherical but I don't believe it's the way Nasa depicts it. I believe what we consider Earth to be flat and there is something of a dome or firmament on top while there is something like half a sphere below the flat plane.
Well, some ideas just invite a little ridicule, but you,and everyone else is certainly entitled to individual ideas. Not trying to be mean----It's just basically understood that objects making orbits around the world have never shown pictures of the so-called flat underside of this object on which we reside. If they can get that done---then I'm in.
It is what it is. I have no problem with people having their beliefs but it seems that a lot of them have a problem with mine because it isn't universally accepted.
Are you that way across the board? Like if someone told you they had 5 grams of Psilocybin Mushrooms and that it will alter your mind would you be skeptical it would do anything? Do you think it's just as likely you're interacting with bots in this thread as with people? Or is it more specific to the situation with NASA being closely tied to the government and relatively few people seeing Earth from the perspective of outer space?
I question everything. c: I like to come to my own conclusions about things but that doesn't mean I won't listen to other peoples opinions and such.
