Just a question, am I supposed to continue backcombing the "loose areas" or will the dreads dread themselves?
i would recommend not rebackcombing! it will only damage, cause breakage, and stress the hair out more. its natural for them wanting to unravel, loop, shrink, and move around a bit because hair needs to move to be able to knott. it takes time. good luck, they are beautiful!
Yeah, it's best not to backcomb and let them do their dread thang. Maybe you could use a dread accelerator like salt water on your hair. Check out some of the other threads about salt water. Maybe dread accelerators should have their own sticky? Peace and love
Dreads don't happen overnight. It took me at least 8 months before I could really tell that I had dreadies formed. And they're still forming, even after 11 months. Dreads help teach patience! Peace and love
Yeah, I know. I'm just a bit impatient  Btw, do you have a pic of ur dreads, hippie_chick666? Peace
Not yet. I don't have a camera or a cable hook up thing for my computer When I get pics on the internet, you guys will be the first to know! Peace and love
In my experience, I've only seen hair lock up better WITHOUT rubber bands. I understand how some people are worried only about keeping them separated into nice neat little sections. But most of what I've seen of rubber bands is just of them constricting the movement of hair around the base of the dread, preventing it from locking. A good alternative: beads. You don't have to have beads for every dread, but 10 or so can be a great help. Every time you wash you hair, you can take the out for a day. As your hair dries it'll knot up a bit, then you go through, rip them apart where necessary, and put in the beads where they're needed the most. Another thing to remember is that locks change in appearance, in fullness, etc. a lot even in the first few months. I found that much of the time I had dreads growing together, it was better that way. I probably have half as many dreads now as I did when my friends tentatively sectioned it off. More pics!
