no they don't. what they used was salt peter, but i don't think it worked anyway, so they stopped using it.

BU1 was mad because every single person in our division failed the first PT, and that goes on his record as a red mark. he was awfully mad. my chief had actually had an incident the first time he was an RDC, he was going through a divorce, and nearly strangled a recruit. he stopped being an RDC after that, and then came back when he wasn't suffering at home. he was so awesome. i think hes a warrant officer now, but he'll always be Chief to me

 

I was in BC decades ago and we heard the same thing. No one ever verified it but I would guess thru my personal experiences it was true- - Hell, if it made the food tastse better -throw it in - who cares.
Back at that time , weeks would go by before we would even see a women anyway
