Feeder Kittens??

If the dog didnt prefer to RUN WILD, why do you hafta keep it in a fence or on a leash, my dogs run all over my land and no one elses, they COULD leave if they want, but they arent miss trested(on a chain or in a fence)...

 

I think that's great. That's not really "running wild". If they stay on your land, then that's nice, that's how it should be. I know they prefer to run loose rather than a leash or fence. I thought you meant they just are allowed to roam around on others land, etc. I know lots of people who shoot stray dogs.

somehow I doubt that Freaky...seeing as that "being eaten alive" is the biggest universal fear.

The reality is folks..

1.this thread was an intended joke..and all it proves is the lack of senses of humor.

2.Snakes are carnivorous creatures and they have as much of a right to eat as any other animal...and you cant force them to eat carrots and tofu.and if kittens are the meal du jour...suck it up.

3. the reason why humans dont feed other humans to animals(as a common practice) because that goes against everything in nature. Other animal species don't purposefully feed each other to predators. A mother deer isn't gonna kick her fawn to the nearest cougar because the cougar deserves a good meal. Our number one instinct is to preserve the survival of the species. This is an instinct that even humans can't override in the moment of truth.

Yes humans kill each other...tigers kill other tigers...sharks kill other sharks.

why humans and other animals do this is still being researched. It's an interesting behavior.

a male lion would fight fiercely to protect the entire pride...an hour later, he'll kill the cubs. why??? good question. to preserve his dna? maybe but not proven as of yet.

Humans kill each other in war, execute naughty members, shoot their neighbor with a gun....but it isnt ok to feed the neighbor's infant to the feral dog pack.

It's very odd...and even more interesting seeing as that it isnt a behavior possessed only in humans.

4.Mice have bones....get over it already. yes they are flexible...so are alot of humans..that doesnt mean that those people have less bones.

5. wild animals are much different then domesticated animals. feral cats and dogs may be able to survive a bit on their own...but they dont have the nature-given instincts to control their own populations and healthily sustain the populations of their prey.

cats and dogs will breed themselves into the millions(unlike wild predators who have very slow breeding cycles) and cats and dogs will deplete entire species of animals.(unlike wild predators which only take what they need and move around..not straining a prey population)

Oh, and cats in my hood are more populus than racoons, possums, and stuff like that. They have nobody taking care of them and their little society is doing just fine. That sounds wild to me. See, cats are scavengers. If they find a food source (especially one that replenishes itself like a dumpster), they will be content.

No one said they didn't have a right to eat, don't be ridiculous. But when you keep an animal as a pet, you, for the most part, dictate what it eats. It is my opinion that cats should not be used to feed them. If a snake caught a kitten in the wild on its own, fine. Actually, I don't think snakes should be kept as pets.

Hardly as odd as your comments.....Yes, we "kill" convicts (sometimes, not often enough IMO), have wars, etc, but there are reasons for it, whether you agree with them or not. There is no moral reason to kill innocent (goes without saying) human babies.

Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. It's not "nature-given instincts" that control populations. Other species (sadly even us it appears) don't think about their populations and consciously control them. Rather, it is a combination of factors such as bottom-up controls like less food (prey or browse) or top-down controls like more predators. Diseases and weather also are important factors. It's not about instinct though.
Feral cats and dogs do very well and it has nothing really to do with their populations. I urge people to not allow their cats to become feral though, they have a significant impact on song bird populations.

 

Rats and cats are on the same level. Anyone who's ever owned rats know how smart they are. They're very intelligent and social animals, and I don't understand how anyone here could say that it's ok to feed a snake a rat but not a kitten. Btw, snakes don't fucking care. If it's small and moves and tastes like food, they eat it. Although many animals are very very smart, they're still stupid. They don't give a shit if they eat a kitten or not, they just want to eat. Yeah, it's sick and twisted to feed a kitten to a snake, but in another country, they would fucking eat the cat then slice open the snake and eat it too. It's all relative. Whether COB was joking or not, this was a stupid fucking thread, because no one feeds cats to snakes. I'm sure the local ohio community and COB's parents would be very concerned for Mr. COB if he were caught feeding other animals kittens. COB, very mature of you. How long are you keeping this snake for anyways? They only eat once a week or so regularily, and can go much longer than that, I don't see why you should be feeding this snake unless you were taking care of it for an extended period of time. Also, I don't know anybody who would just take a big ass snake(one big enough to eat a cat) when they are'nt normally around snakes.

I don't think this thread was stupid, there are a lot of debatable issues involved. It's not as stupid as half the threads in Hipforums. I personally think rats are a bit repulsive. A cat is not. Rats are disease vectors and agriculturally harmful and pests in general. That is how I place them lower on my list of moral consideration.

well.then don't have a snake as a pet then. But the world does not revolve around you...so people will continue to have pets including snakes. And I dont see the difference between feeding a domesticated rat to a snake and feeding a domesticated feline to a snake. Both are common,over-populated animals...if you truly appreciate animals..you don't rank them by importance. ALL animals are equal...but nature sucks sometimes and there are animals who eat other animals...it's not a matter of equality..it's just the way things are.I don't see cats as being more important in the grande scheme of things then rats. if anything..I'd prefer to see less cats to protect rarer bird species.

As for the other comments.while I agree with those myself(though I am pro-choice)...there are millions of people who dont...they don't agree with any war...they don't agree with capital punishment. They don't believe ANY reason is valid enough for those actions. There are probably millions of people who believe that human babies are no more innocent then the cows we breed on factory farms and slaughter so that we can sell their carcasses in grocery stores.I personally don't agree with that..but I'm not gonna tell someone else that that belief is wrong.

There are dozens of cultures all over the globe that view humans as completely morally below all other creatures. There are villages in Bengal that if a child gets snatched by a tiger.that's life. They mourn the loss for a bit and then revere the child as having been sacrificed to the great tiger..a virtual god to them. they don't do what westerners do..and that's hunt down and kill every single species individual in the area of an attack. They have more respect for nature's harsh ways. There is a village on the Ganges where more then half of the population have wounds from bull sharks. But they don't go out and kill all of the bull sharks until no more attacks happen. They continue swimming and bathing in the river, why? because if a shark gets them..it was meant to be...kind of Darwinian.survival of the fittest.

for people raising an eyebrow...Bull sharks can live in water with very low salinity levels..they are often found swimming in rivers and one was once found in Lake Ontario.They are also, the number 1 man-killing shark. even surpassing the Great White.

I don't eh? and you do? obviously not..since..common knowlege has proven that predators are natural balancers. You have a lion vs a herd of gazelle. The lion picks off the weakest and oldest of the herd. They eliminate the bad dna from the herds...they don't overhunt..and the proportions between ungulates and predators is as healthy levels for both species and eco-system.

Humans are the only factor that throw this equilibrium off. We kill the predators because they could eat us...ungulate and rodent populations soar because there are no more predators other then man.

vice versa...if we throw the ungulate population into imbalance..the predators have no other food source..and will either die of starvation or more likely, turn on humans as a food source.

This has been proven time and time again. AND this happens to be the most viable argument against ungulate culling here in the USA. We wouldn't need to cull deer herds if we simply reintroduced cougars and wolves back into the wild. But as California is proving with each cougar attacks..humans are still not willing to sacrifice their space to these animals. We continue deforestation and sprawl..we cut into the cougar's habitat with disgusting earth-raping yuppie complexes but bitch when some nitwit jogger get's killed by one of the local mountain lions.

and obviously you live in some sort of Lalaland with the happy,thriving feral cats and dogs..because here in the real world..these animals are starving, diseased,and waaayyy overpopulated. They attack other animals,often killing them, they attack people, they do alot of damage...and they seriously effect the ecosystem.

AND they breed like prey animals and rodents. A natural predator mates and births..once a year. A lion has,on average..2 cubs a year. Feral cats can and do have as many 3 LITTERS a year. A cat's gestation is only 2 months..she goes into heat the moment those kittens are weaned...and I have actually seen nursing pregnant cats in my neighborhood.
