Wrong thread. I think you're looking for the Whining Thread.

I'm going to be just as bad and instead of listing a restaurant I'm going to ask if anyone in Montreal knows the name of a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in downtown Montreal (I think it was a German restaurant) and makes great goulash soup (goulash zuppa, they called it). A friend took me there a long time ago and I can't for the life of me remember the name. I'm going to be bad in this thread. I forget the restaurant name and only remember the food. :blush5:

Sorry I can't help with that German restaurant in Montreal, maybe someone else on the forum might know. I've had it once but I think it was at a Hungarian place.

I still haven't dug in to any poutines in this weeklong festival. I don't know if that means I've been good or bad. Or just lazy. Now if only it was an Olympic event, I'd be motivated to work myself out of shape for it. :D

Thank you for thinking about it. It was Hungarian goulash but it was a German restaurant that much I remember.

Have you entered your event into the Olympics yet? I still haven't had poutine and the week is almost over. What a bad Montrealer I am. So many restaurants to try, so little time. I did have a bagel today!

No food event at the Olympics sadly. It would be nice if each country brought out a traditional dish during the Opening Ceremony and they were judged by Gordon Ramsay, kind of like a MasterChef Olympics.

It's no big deal if you don't have a poutine during Poutine Week, any time is good, the bagel was admirable. I did have one poutine at least, though nothing fancy like what's on offer this week, from Dunn's which is really known for their great smoked meat. Their poutines are good too, I've had the traditional Quebecois one and now their Parisian style where the gravy is a pepper sauce. The fries are sweet and the gravy is tasty, along with the gooey cheese it's a heavenly mix. I guess I'll have to try their smoked meat poutine next, cover all the bases. :D

That Parisian poutine sounds good. Your description has me drooling. I like pepper sauce. I'll have to try it. Hopefully they didn't just make it for poutine week. I think there should be a poutine month! :D

Food event, lol. I could do without the judging, but surely the athletes work up an appetite and need to refuel. Let's see the meals prepared for them! ;)

Poutine month? Absolutely! Where do I sign?

I'm sure the Olympic athletes have delicious, healthy gourmet meals prepared for them, that would be nice to see.

Well my next port of call is crepes, since today was Sunday brunch. The restaurant chain Tutti Frutti is a breakfast place that does lots of creative crepes. With my sweet tooth, I can't help having the sweet ones like banana and hazelnut chocolate or maple and butter crepes. They're delicious though maybe a bit too sweet. Like the red velvet crepes with cream, I nearly had a sugar stroke after that. :D

Holy crepe! I love crepes! Never mind Schwartz's, bagels and poutine. The crepes in that picture are to die for. Tutti Fruitti is going on my list. I looked at their menu online and the chocolate hazelnut with the berries on top look so decadent. I've also been wanting to try a restaurant in Dorval called Saveurs du Lac that is supposed to have good breakfasts and great crepes, including Crepe Suzette one of my favourites. I should be going there next month. I'll have to return with a review to rival yours.

Prince Albert's in London Ontario. They'll put chili on anything.

You were right, Lucy! This chocolate hazelnut crepe with berries from Tutti Frutti was decadent! Even if my pic is topped with chocolate chips instead of berries, talk about adding insult to injury! And so sweet with that creamy chocolate filling. It's a monstrous crepe, I'd suggest bringing a few friends along to share in the decadence. I haven't been to that restaurant in Dorval but I think it's a well known breakfast place, enjoy your Crepe Suzette!

And I know Poutine Week is over but this is the smoked meat poutine from Dunn's, delicious mix. I would have liked the smoked meat in thicker chunks, it was a bit gristly but goes really well with the fresh fries, sweet gravy and gooey cheese. It was too late for Sochi but there's plenty of time to get them into the Summer Olympics in Brazil. :D

Oh yum! I want to take my brother to Saveurs du Lac for his birthday next month. Maybe I should drag him up to Tutti Frutti. He'd inhale that chocolate hazelnut crepe in no time. The smoked meat does look rather crumbly on that poutine but good to hear the taste was there.

We have time to start the wheels turning for a Poutine Event in Brazil. Or maybe a Crepe Event. Heck, let's just make it a Food Event. I do believe you'd get the gold while I struggle to make a mark at 10th place!

I love to stop at Le Pot Au Feu in Montebello, QE. Fine French cuisine but on the casual side rather than pomp. Nice drive from Ottawa for a meal and a walk around the Chateau before dinner.

Your mention of the Chateau reminded me of the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. I stayed in the Chateau once when we visited Quebec City. The variety of crepes in the city! You could have them for every meal served a different way. (Did I mention I love crepes?) It's a good thing we did a lot of walking, especially around the old section. One restaurant we ate at that had one of the best Steak Au Poivre was Aux Vieux Canons which sadly closed its doors a couple of years ago after being in business over 40 years. Still haven't gone to Saveurs du Lac. I keep passing it and think of the crepes every time I do! Soon.
