Ooh, the pants with nobody inside them. I loved that story! I had it in a big book with another story about sneetches and their stars. I think my fave childhood book was "Are you my mother?" I also read Nancy Drew, the Berenstein Bears, the Chronicles of Narnia, Little House on the Prairie books, and Little Miss and Mr. books (like Little Miss Scatterbrain or Little Miss Naughty). Also, what were those books with the animals? Like an animal for every letter or something? I don't remember, but I loved to read when I was smaller... I Love You Forever is a great book, it means more to me now then it did when I was young.
The little Prince. Its still a favourite. All that talk of flying Tis lovely Oh, and the books of Babar...the Elephant King
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell was my first favourite book as a young child. I still love that horse! It was also the first story which truly made me cry. I was very touched by it. Does anyone else love beautiful horses? They are still my favourite animal.
robinson crusoe or maybe ....the house that beebo built by phillip fix a wonderful distopian novel for the under 8s, where beebo gets screwed by the man and society in general
I was raised on Dr. Suess! I also really liked A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'engle. One of my favorite books to this day.
Stig of the dump was a big favourite of mine,i am from the Uk so i dont know if it reached American readers,i used to love the Dr Suess books tremendously,in fact my sons have them now,and i must admit to having a look through them now and again,i still find them entertaining, even as an adult.
I liked the Giver - by Lois Lowry as a kid. As a young child, I liked "Le chandail de hockey" by Roch Carrier - or translated in english it was "The Hockey Sweater". It's a Canadian classic, and one of the illustrations has even been printed onto the $5 Canada bill.
I had a book full of monster stories It was cool. There was a sea hag that ate children who went near swamps.
When I was really little, the Puddle Lane books and anything by Dick King-Smith (especially the Sophie stories for obvious reasons!). Later on it was more a case of anything and everything, my grandma said it wasn't worth buying me books I read them so quickly!
amber brown! goosebumps, roald dahl, shel silverstein, archie comics, sonic comics, dr. seuss, winnie the pooh, those books with the spikey brown guy with names like "just me and my dad" or "just me in the tub". i read a lot of nonfiction books about all kinds of stuff. space, brains, jungles, mummies, religion...
"The chicken that could swim", anything by Roald Dahl, winnie the pooh (the original stories), children's reference books and encyclopaedias, cherry tree farm stories, dr seuss, goosebumps, banana books, point horrors, the hobbit, mr men/little miss, Bj books, miffy books, sonic the hedgehog stories, super mario stories etc etc
oh and how could I forget "THE JOLLY POSTMAN" books, they were legendary!! And of course, the Chronicles of Narnia.
Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner; Tom Sawyer; My Friend Mr Leakey by JBS Haldane; and yes, the Narnia books. Started getting into Sherlock Holmes and James Bond when I was 11 or 12 or so. And um, Denis Wheatley, who I would probably find unreadable now.
By all-time favorite children's author is Robert Munsch. I had at least a half dozen favorite books all by him, and basically loved any of his stuff (and still do!) As an older child, I definitely liked The Phantom Tollbooth.
