Spooky Tooth, The Band, Iron Butterfly, Buffalo Springfield, The Beatles, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Jefferson Airplane.. to name a few
Buffalo Springfield made some great American Folk Pop. Hendrix and all his incarnations were obviously pioneers of hard rock. Pentangle, Fairport Convention, and Steeleye Span were great english folk rock bands. There are too many to mention! I would start writing paragraphs, but I won't.
There were dozens of great bands but two of the most influential were the Yardbirds and Buffalo Springfield.
Jimi Hendrix Experience, Fairport Convention, Big Brother/Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone, Otis Redding, Jefferson Airplane, Sam & Dave, The Temptations (...soul in general.) Then there are others such as Leonard Cohen, Stevie Wonder, and Grateful Dead who started in the 60s... but on the basis of their output in the 60s alone wouldn't be among my favorites.

The 60's music scene was like an avalanche - too many to names - A few -- Beatles, Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Joplin, Kinks, Zombies, Dylan, Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Monkeys, Neil Young, BeeGees, Byrds, Ricky Nelson - Oh God - too many.
Moody Blues Small Faces Cream Blind Faith (all 1 album) Status Quo (formed 1969) The Easybeats (an Aussie band and an icon of the 60s down here...youtube them for a real treat!) The Loved Ones (ditto) Masters Apprentices (ditto) Twilights (ditto) As a matter of interest, George Young (guitarist and songwriter from The Easybeats) had 2 younger brothers you may have heard of....Malcolm and Angus Young from AC/DC.
