They're not all my favourite, only 1 is, that's why Pink Floyd is written in big letters, I just listed all I liked.

It's very possible to have a zillion favorites. If you're obsessed with music, it's pretty easy. You have a zillion favorites, and a kajillion that you just sort of like.

Although I agree with MusicMan in theory, I differ with him in reality.

For the true music lover is "critical" of that music that he or she listens to, leading to the development of preferences... Once you have preferences, you develop discriminations... And if you have discriminations, less things are attractive to you...

    So I agree with InTheFlesh...

How can you have a "zillion favorites?"

I guess it's a semantics argument really. I don't believe that favorites have any type of limit to 10 or 20 bands. If you like literally thousands of bands, there's a good chance you'll favor 600 or so over the rest, and then you'll discriminate between songs taking into account construction, complexity of the writing, melody, overall meaning and nostalgia of certain bands closest to you, which, if you like 500,000 bands a fair amount, could be more than a hundred bands.

I assume for technical purposes you'd have to split hairs and break it down to about 20 bands because most people won't want to talk about your favorite 200 bands, unless, ofcourse, you're talking to a music student, a really serious musician, or a serious music lover, who will more than likely love to spend hours breaking down your favorite bands with you, and discussing close and distant influences, recording engineers, recording locations/year, equipment set-ups, line-up changes and all those things a true music geek likes to do. It kind of reminds me of Jack Black and the skinny dude in Hi Fidelity.

Did anyone else notice that Intheflesh looks kind of like a really long haired Jim Norton? lol, I'm serious!

    Nice post, MusicMan...

I give you props... Well said, hombre...

Although I differ with singular attractions in your music tastes, I like your posting skills, young man... I'm sounding like such the old timer, but I am usually one of the oldest on the board... So, pardon my manners, call me Grandpa, whatever, I probably deserve it. But that post you wrote was pretty sharp... As a picky English major, that means something, coming from me.

If you like Satriani and Yngwie, you should check out this British band called Ozric Tentacles... It will probably change your life... That music is complex, and difficult to digest, but chewy and full of twists and turns... A pretzel for your ears... Imagine Satriani playing guitar over driving bass and drum rhythm section, add several layers of electronic weirdness courtesy of Roger Waters' son with a few drops of Eastern mysticism stirred in, and you get Ozric Tentacles. The guys from Ozric have been recording with different personnel and in different arrangements for the last 20 years, but Ed Wynne is the common denominator and the main brain behind Ozric Tentacles. I really think that someone with progressive music tastes should check this band out...

It may not be your cup of tea, but I guarantee you a "unique" listening experience. Their sharpest albums in my opinion would be "The Hidden Step" and "Jurassic Shift," followed by "Erpland" and "Pungent Effulgent." But there are 19 to 20 to choose from, and I have them all, and am glad for it.

    Sharp post, MusicMan...
