contemporary music overall sucks. the 60's and 70's knew waht it was about. Then the 80's came, and music exploded into so many more styles from teh already growing styled of the 70's.

however as soon as the 90's came along, music stopped being about music, and turned into a business of attitude, image, catchiness, or plain non catchiness, and more attitude.

Whats in rap? The lyrics? Well mainstream rap is all about teh same old shit, however, underground hip hop can be pretty cool some of it, social commentary and stuff, from the guys who actually want to make a statement, like it was in teh 80's.

Like, 80's rap was so much better than the rap of today. It was about the feelings of the singer and writers and stuff.

there is no way you can defend contemporary rap and stuff. Its just not good.

Recordings nowadays are also so clean and crisp and cut, music sounds more and more like a product, than .. music!

The reason music has changed so much is that music needs to always change otherwise it starts repeating itself. There is a finite amount of songs that can be written before one sounds like another. Thats why no one can trully bring back the good music until all music as we know it is forgotten or destroyed.

There been loads of good music since the 60s and 70s. Listen to anyone of the stuff that came out in the early 90s like The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Happy Mondays and Super Furry Animals. It's all right up there with the best of the stuff from the 60s and 70s. There is also some fucking brilliant electronic music out nowadays like Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Ceephax Acid Crew, Orbital, Leftfield, Underworld etc etc. Even in the last 2 years look at some of the new bands that have burst on to the scene, Franz Ferdinand, White Stripes, Kings of Leon etc etc. Also the ignorance towards rap/hip-hop on here is unreal. It's not all the same as the shit-hop that is force fed to us all via MTV and the radio, there is some really good stuff out there with good lyrics which is proper social commentary and not all about "bitches and hoes". Check out Jurassic 5, Blackalicious, Dj Format etc etc. Seriously folks most of you are stick in a time warp musically, you gotta broaden your horizons and bit and try and expose yourself to new stuff. I love Hendrix, Floyd, The Dead, The Doors, Bob Marley etc etc as much as the next person but there's so much more good stuff around, you just have to dig through all the rubbish that's out aswell to find it. Plus you're never gonna get to see any of those bands. I've got to see most of the acts I mentioned above and it beats sitting at home watching Woddstock on DVD over and over.............hmmmm went off ona bit of a rant there :)

(I'm new and junk. Sweet ass!)

I like the typical run of the mill stoner stuff (Pink Floyd, Bob Marely, Sublime, Hendrix and Zeppelin).
I also like the typical former-candy-raver stuff of trance, hardcore, and jungle.

But my faveorite, if I'm stoned or not has got to be stuff like Kill Hannah, and My Chemical Romance.
Which isnt really saying much, because thats what I'm always listening to. :D

We all jam that same stuff i guess (Hendrix, Sublime etc..) But we also listen to alot of rap. being from the south there is alot of underground stuff that most people outside of the state are never exposed to. if any of yall have kazaa or something similar download a few songs by Z-RO or Vicious. They speak the truth - no doubt

The Doors are my all time fav band to get stoned too, most specificially the Doors self titled album is the album that gets put on the most
it's just the perfect stoner album

also a lot of later Beatles stuff depending on the mood of that one experiance
because sometimes i just like happy feel good trippy stuff (like The Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel) and other times i like deeper stuff (Doors, Pink Floyd etc)
