lol, flea is good but he's not what he's being hyped up to be here. Listen to Jaco or Wooten for some serious bass playing. My favorite "modern" as in wasn't playing in a major band in the sixties or seventies is Mike Gordon.
it really just depends on what style of music your truely into. like for pure funk and punk then flea is hands down the greatest. what i most respect about him is that he went from that macho slap technique to a more modern and reserved style plus he isnt as much of a force on songs as he used to be hes more making it melt with the song instead of it be the leading force. john entwistle as well was one of the greats , also gene simmons.
My favorite bassist has got to be Joey Captan, of Melmac. He was also in A Dozen Dying Roses, but I didn't fancy that band too much. He is a very good friend of mine and an excellent bassist.
Oh man. LoL at the guy who said that Claypool isn't creative. How foolish. Doug Wimbish is quite a bassist, as was Cliff Burton. I'd still say that Les has everyone beat.
what do u mean a little more creativity? u should know ur shit before u say it! u have no idea what u are talkin about he has amazing creativity but hey thats just my opinion and A FACT!
so dont get all bent outta shape about it - and certainly not before you have checked out Tony Levin.
