The Dharma Bums...i haven't finished it, but I love it. On the Road is great too. I haven't finshed that one either, cause I started about 10 other books around the same time. Anyway, they're great and as soon as I'm done, I'll read some other Kerouac...

Wow. I just found this place. I am a HUGE Kerouac fanatic. Funny, I never thought about which ones I like the best. Probably have to say Desolation Angels, Big Sur, Town the and City in a totally different way....

Lonesome Traveller. Its much more true to life than his other work and IMO is read by far few people.

You won't regret it, its a great book. I read it quite a few years ago but I found it very charming. On the Road and the more popular books pack a punch and are instantly likable, but this one is really subtly beautiful and I am pretty sure its fully autobiographical.

If you've read any Kerouac, be sure to read his first novel, "The Town and the City." It's his most novel-like and least beat, back when he was trying to write "proper literature" inspired by his hero Thomas Wolfe and all. It's a good, good read, and hella different than the stuff you might already know and love.

Dharma Bums is my all time favorite book. When I first read it I felt like I had finally found my people, found my way. I've never felt in tune with any other book like that before or after.
