Yeah, Journey is awesome. :sunglasse I have one of their compilation CDs. Here's an inside info: Journey, in the early days, used to focus more on the aggressive(in a way "heavy") compositions, though, their were lacking in the ballads department. Upon having this pointed out, they began writing ballads, and those songs sold so well, even better than their upper-beat stuff, that they've since been putting out a lot more ballads and in turn have become a great success.
Oh, you're going to see the Stones?!?! Wicked!! My favorite Rolling Stones songs are "Satisfaction" and "Gimme Shelter". How about Toto? Have you heard any of their stuff?
Yeah, I've heard Hold the Line. LOL. My favorites are Jumpin' Jack Flash and Brown Sugar. I PsYcHeD about seeing them.
Well, have fun!! Speaking of the Rolling Stones and the 80's... Twisted Sister did a cover of "I know it's only rock n'roll but I like it" live. It's on their greatest hits album... What was it called again? "Big Hits and Nasty Cuts"? That live performance is kickass!
Well, it's different from the original. The original version is a groovy piece that has that distinct laid back feel to it. The Twisted Sister version is basically Twisted Sister, LOL. And especially with it being live, Dee Snider's swearing every few words while talking to the crowd. I remember getting a kick out of the stuff he says though, vulgar or not. Of course, the original is a true classic, needless to say.
Oh yeah, that's on the "Lies" album. I also remember the song was on the set list for GN'R live in Paris(this was in the early 90's). Special guests included Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz, and Aerosmith of course came out on stage to play "Mama Kin" with GN'R. The opening band was Soundgarden promoting the album Badmotorfinger. I remember taping it on VCR, but I don't have the video with me at the moment. I know I still have it somewhere...
My favourite band from the 80s was the Pogues. Every time, hands down, no contest. Shane MacGowan was a brilliant writer.
Hmm, those names don't sound too familiar... Maybe I've heard their stuff without knowing who they are, though. Has anyone mentioned The Police? I'm pretty sure these guys have been mentioned already, but just in case....
Same here. They have some really good songs out. "Don't Stand So Close To Me" needless to say...and "Message In The Bottle", "Roxanne"... Andy Summers isn't a flashy guitar player, but his playing is really tight, and the same thing is said for the rest of the band as well.
