Hah, indeed. Now with me, everyone knew I was "that hippy dude and OMG he sells drugs!!". True, but not incredibly flattering. I mean, I didn't do it 24/7, I have other characteristics. My school had a VERY strict uniform though.. made us look like a bunch of fuckin squares. Although they couldn't do anything about my hair - I quote: "Hair must be tied back if longer than the collar". Voila. No mention of boys or girls, so I just wore my hair halfway down to my arse, plaited it and had 'em bang to rights
That's cool, I've had a thing for guys with long hair since I was about 16...not that I'm trying to hit on you or anything like that , lol.Good for you, for standing up for who you are and doing your own thing.
I do understand what you are going through. It seems that I may be in the same situation. Like having people calling them selves hippies because they dress like one. If you are a true hippy you would not call yourself one to prove yourself different, you would simply call yourself human. With your "friends" that are calling themselves hippies to be cool, tell them they are mistakin themselves for something else... a stereotype. When it comes to smoking, you can smoke with anybody... When it comes to having "preps" and "goths" as friends.... Well all I can say is good luck with the labels because lord knows the true definitions of those labels. Everything changes over time.
well thats the same way with me too. i used to sell weed and sell acid but now that ive stopped the reputation seems like it'll never go away. and its just people who ive gone to high school with so im not too worried anyways.
My friends are the awesomest... we're all different but we're good together. And none of us really *is* anything... I mean, none of us are goth, none of us are punks, none of us are hippies, none of us are metalheads. Some of us are a little bit punk or a little bit hippie or a little bit metalhead, but basically we're nothing more than people in the end. So, why should it matter?
I hang out with other pirate loving metal heads (im not a metal head btw) at school. they are the coolest people I know, definetly free minds and free spirits. i also hang out with self proclaimed hippies and musicians. Ive said stuff on here about society that make no sense with my geographical location, which holds a diverse bunch of people in one hick town/island. Im lucky to live in washington. where else will I find this much atheists/and hindus in the same place residing without conflict .
I get called a nature freak and a hippie but to be honest I mean i dont really hang around with anyone like that. All my friends are like weird and random... And thats why they're my friends. Hippie style is supposed to be cool now... I just dont hang around with fake people.
My friend Travis used to be so cool and Shane was a douche, now Shane's the free mind and Travis is a douche. this sucks.
not crazy... but i think you exagurate a bit...maybe you just look for true ppl in wrong places.... in general...you shouldnt actually LOOK FOR ppl, but just be yourself and ENJOY being youyrself and stick to your own philosophy, and the ppl you need will find you
Often the faults we find in others are the ones we embody ourselves in some form or another. Clothes and hair are affectations all around and it's seems silly to me, to judge someone 'fake' based on something as silly as comparing clothes/style to attitude. My dreading has certainly taught me this. Base judgment on action and not action + clothes. Subcultures are also not uptopias. They're just convenient generalizations and are prone to have a wide variety of folk, including asshats and dickwads. There were asshat hippies in the 60's and there will be asshat hippies now too. It's a human thing and you're never going to escape that. Also, I think, If you're worrying that 'fake' persons of a subculture are going to effect how people judge you - then you need to step back and think about why you care so much about that judgment.
I am a fake person and a fake hippy. Actually, I dont know what am I doing here anyway cause I am not a hippy in any way. Feel free to insult me and hate me.
You shape yourself kind of. Everybody does that to a certain extend and some do it a lot and seem to try to be a caricature of a subculture. If you shape yourself to a certain image isn't that (at least) a part of yourself? So you maybe can be a fake hippie but you're never a fake person in my opinion. Unless you strive to create one of course.
