Seems you chose to either not read the rest of the thread, or chose to try to ignore some things, I thought I would help you out a little...

The originals are still the greatest? The original what? Hippies?

One of the mainstay of the hippie movement was being against labels... Not just negative labels, but all labels... The idea was that people were individuals and that you shouldn't judge others based upon random labels that someone (even themselves) slapped on them.

Anyone arguing who deserves the label hippie more, has no clue what one of the main points was....

Damn wheres the love, I think we all just need a lil smoke, some Dead, and some love in this thread...

I get criticized about this type of crap a lot. its a way of life, but whatever you label yourself you should def listen to some beatles, and many other 60's music. your loss if you don't but whateva, each their own....

Awe man, I would give my left nut to go back to the 60's. I wish I could have seen Jimmy and Janis and Jerry when they were still alive. At least Hendrix is till making albums though, despite the fact that he's dead.

Its really hard to find acid these days too, and I think they had generally the right idea about how to change humanity for the better. LSD, today, should be an optional sacrament offered to people who need it by licensed psychiatrists and shamans. It should be mandatory for politicians and people of authority though. DMT and mushrooms are a little easier to get a hold of though.

I wish people could get into the same spirit today against war and the military industrial complex. In that way, I can see what the OP is getting at. Its kind of like its been absorbed aesthetically by the establishment and regurgitated as a cartoonized, tacky kitsch.

Whether there is or not is totally irrelevant... unless you can show me one in the store that says it was recorded by him AFTER his death...

Although, seems you did bring it up... why would there be a recording studio? Now, an open air concert hall I could see.... but a studio?

It was a joke. They released Valleys of Neptune this year, which was totally fucking awesome. I can only hope there's more material sitting in a vault somewhere.

i thought i was a hippie on account of me being non conventional, that is the definition after all "someone who rejects the established culture and who chooses not to conform to prevailing social norms; advocates extreme liberalism in politics and lifestyle". i didnt know you had to be from the 60s. though i know who the beatles are and i dont think they are bad but they are not my type of music and i dont usually listen to them. however the type of music i listen to is pretty non conventional and some are pretty trippy, i dount think thats what makes me a hippie though, its my life and philosophies.

some days i dress more hippie then others, many days i dont look hippie at all. i am just as hippie on the days i wear regular jeans and tee shirt as i am when i dress earthy. it doesnt make me a weekend hippie. also i never wear the headband or peace sign. i dress mildly earthy with tribal gypsy influences, no tie die or 60s stuff. and non of what i wear is what makes me hippie either.

how could anyone think someone is less hippie because they dont like a certain kind of music or know a certain band? unless they have no idea what hippie is. like its some kind of trend like high school clique where you have to keep up with knowing all the bands of that trend and upcoming concerts or your just not cool. "OMG you dont even know who this band is? like are you even a real (insert trend here)? you are obviously not one of us"
isnt being a hippie about not conforming to that exclusive grouping crap and being free thinkers?

its like saying to be christian you have to wear the clothes and listen to the music from Christ era. its about the philosophy and way of life, not about keeping up with the trend.

This all goes back to how one defines a hippie. Who cares if kids dress like fake hippies? Why hate on them?
Who cares? at least they have the general idea... kinda...

For those who say hippes don't do labels- isn't being on this site labeling yourself? You join because you call yourself a hippie...which is labeling...unless labeling doesn't count if you're labeling yourself...like, is it right to call a tissue a kleenex when it's actually a puffs?...Even if the puffs tissue is disguised as a kleenex by being in a kleenex box...oh dear...

Anyway, I know whatya mean, I see tons of girls wearing all these clothes that are "hippie-like". I like a lot of the clothes. But a lot of them I don't like.... I don't like those lace stockings either, they look like the wearer has some odd skin condition. Uggs look funny too. So do those weird gladiator shoes...

I hate to admit it but that kind of annoys me to. Haha I know tons of people like that. Or someone that calls themselves a hippie but they act the opposite of one all the time

I think that the idea that people join this site because they are/call themselves a hippie is a huge assumption.
I assume that people join this site because they find it interesting, however there is a lot on this site that is interesting to anyone whether they are hippie or not.
Apart from that I believe that there is nothing wrong with identifying yourself with a certain group, the problems start when you start labeling others into groups they do not identify themselves with.

actually i dont label myself a hippie i joined this site a few years back because i stumbled upon it and liked the forums how i can get different information about varies things i am interested in; music, drugs, self sustainable etc.

You can label me what you will but my virtue goes beyond that. We are all constantly growing and manifesting something so in other words we are always constantly changing so what is the point of labels. I like to look at things beyond the ego.
