I was under the impression that the orginial split was whether the successor to mohammed should be his son or should be the wisest. from there it sort of devolved into different tribal groups over a long period of time. at any rate, the conflict between the two is hardly a simple theological matter. the minority sunnis were in control under hussein, but are now worried about their economic future. the area where the sunnis are now the majority is extremely poor in oil, whereas the shi'ite south and kurdish north are oil rich. the kurds have had so much power devolved to them that they might as well be seperate - and the sunnis fear the same will occur with the shi'ites. realistically, it might not be that unlikely - iraq was an extremely artifical creation to begin with. few kurds and shi'ites identify with it.
Yes but theres something called lethal injection, quick and easy. I don't know, I just think hanging people is outdated. It should be a warcrime or outlawed.
Excellent logic. If done right, it snaps your neck and you die as quick as with a lethal injection. I just fail to see the problem.
