I wasn't whining about my parents ways, I think it's cute and adorable they're set in their ways and my folks have to be because they really strive to keep their culture alive in Australia.

Maybe we have a weird way of communicating, my family. We literally just put shit on each other all the time, always teasing, always laughing. "Remember when" etc. there's no malice intended in when I LOL @ them Aeri...

And I know not everyone is like this, just my friends have historically, coincidently? Spoken about the same things, but never in a bad way. Like, daddy has no idea how to set the clock on the microwave, so he just turns it off at the wall after use instead. That's cute. Funny. I'm going to point my finger and laugh at him. And he'll point his back and tell me how much money he's saved on power. XD

i don't plan on cooking her at all, but i suppose if i did, she would probably provide enough meals to spend 8 hours on it.

Probably a variety of factors contribute:

Reinforced behavior, social practices of peers, dedication to their profession and family/relationships.

I think there is a generational societal assimilation, where the society more or less dictates certain measures of priority.

This is not to say that this behavior cannot be shaken, as the example that comes to mind is the 'midlife crisis.' However, even with that exception, it suggests a certain timeframe in which such behavior is likely to occur.

There is great value to an "old person" taking up the piano. Another high-value educational undertaking for avoiding age-related brain issues is to learn another language. I will say though that sometimes people don't adapt to things readily for reasons that are simply convenient to them. I only use a cell phone to make phone calls, handle text messages and once in a while as a camera or MP3 player. That's it. Surfing the web on such a small screen nauseates me. I also need a tactile keyboard. Projected or screen keyboards don't do well with my aging button fingers.

When I cook I prefer to use a knife for prep work. It saves me from having to clean a food processor and it doesn't waste power. I think electric can openers are the height of laziness, on the order of self-closing minivan doors. But I have changed a lot since I was in my 20s. I'm no longer a speed freak staying awake 18 hours a day to win sales awards and finish college. In my 30s I became a husband, parent and corporate sell-out. In my 40s I figured out that corporations are artificial evil entities that act like the very worst elements of a human being without any of the social accountability and decided to take revenge. I lied on my resume to hook a big fish (Spacely) for a 2 year minor priority contract.

For a year and a half I lived high on the hog making double what I was used to making with bills that were half what I was use to paying. It was difficult worrying I'd be discovered for the fraud I was. But it looked like I was going to get away with it as the contract goals were met and we were ramping things down ahead of schedule. Then the worst thing in the world happened. They gave me a promotion. And worse yet, a staff of a half dozen people. All perched upon my lie.

I finally managed to sneak out from under that after another couple of years. What's really great though is that it cemented my reputation. I no longer have to lie about my experience, it's all real now. It's like getting a new lease on life. So I have been doing something I never thought I'd do, helping other people milk corporations for as much money as they possibly can get. It warms my heart!

Fuck greed. I've done greed, it eats a hole in your soul.

    This.

Especially in terms of Technology. The generation before VHS players seemingly still unable to set up the most basic electronic equipment. But then those that grew up through the 80s and 90s that were forced to learn how to set up dial up, configure their browers, put together their desktop PCs, a bit more cluey. Then a dumbing down again once Apple and iphones took over and it was just download an app for any stupid thing

So now its like Babyboomers still mostly clueless about tech, Gen X and Y more savvy, but then dumb stuff happening with Gen Z again

I have found that most people who do not seem to adapt well to new ideas and technologies tend to age far faster than those who attempt to stay somewhat current. I refer to age as in mentally rather than necessarily physically.

Depends on how you look at it. Lets just say in comparison to some of the other threads I've just seen in 'Random Thoughts', it seems to hold a lot of insight!!!

Don't you hate it when the only counter argument one has, is that they've been around for longer than you!

That kind of attitude makes less and less sense as I get older.

And you havent come off as the most mature person in this thread so far.

Youfreeme shared the biggest pearl of wisdom when she said people just do stuff thats less risky as they get older.

And thats all it is, safe and boring, you are more likely to live longer, thats the assumption...trouble is, thats not really true though is it. The ones that stay put in the suburb they grew up in, family in the end becomes the only contact, just sitting in front of the TV and gouging on BBQs, they arent the ones that live longest, and they wouldnt know any different anyway.

Peoples attitudes change because they have less energy to do things, their brains start to slow down and no one can ever be truly objective about how everyone else really sees them. And no one can even remember correctly how they thought or how they were 10, 20, 50 years ago, too much time spent re-imagining how scenarios should have gone, what they should have done or said, too much time lying to themselves

I have a pretty good handle on how/why I've changed over the years.
I think peoples attitudes change because they simply have more road behind them than in front of them.
Hindsight offers a lot of wisdom. Without years on the planet to accumulate experience from which we derive learning and wisdom, the picture is completely different and incomplete.
I'm sure the OP will agree that his attitudes and perspectives have changed as he aged and are different now than there were ten years ago

young folks often get annoyed at the notion that they are lacking in some respects simply due to their age, it's a fact of life, deal with it.

VG, your take on it is considerably different than mine by virtue of one simple fact, I have raised children to adulthood and that affords an incredible amount of perspective and insight into oneself and how we change over time.

A vantage point that you do not enjoy, nor does the OP.
The OP hasn't even got the vantage point of hitting the big 3-0 yet.

I am truly sorry to all of you who seem to think age doesn't matter, your wrong.
