Fag Hags

There is a "fag-hag" in my house right now. One of my housemates is gay, and he has a nice fag-hag following. She's a really nice girl, just gets into drama... and that's not for me, no sir... not drama.

Fag Hags are not trying to turn gay men straight, they just feel better in their company, like Samhain said.

Actually, as a hag, it is fun. I love my gay friends to pieces! I love marching in the pride parade with them. I love going shopping with them (no one can tell me what my ass really looks like in a pair of jeans like my one friend!). I love going to hockey games with them. I love watching Buffy with them... I love just being with them.

I love my gay friends just as much as I love my straight friends.

By your logic, being friends with a person of colour would be no fun because you see all the racism?

Do you only have white straight friends?

I guess Im always seen as the asshole because when someone is racist or homophobic I call them on their behavior, so Im seen as the stick in the mud so to say........

I feel uptight.

But I mean ..... how can we ignore it?

Ignore what? Homophobia? I don't ignore it.. I challenge it all the time. My best friend since junior high is gay, so I was always challenging it in high school. I've made a life out of questioning it publicly.

If strangers think I am a bitch, what do I care? I probably wouldn't want to be friends with someone who uses gay as an adjective anyway. Someone who calls someone else a "fag" deserves to be publicly rediculed for their blantent ignorance.

I have always had a lot of male and female gay friends. Interesting people, who are true to themselves, make an interesting, honest life.



Think of Karen on Will and Grace. (Grace isn't the best example, because she actually almost slept with Will before he came out. Most chicks who enjoy the company of Gay Men have NO desire to sleep with them.) They just like the honesty and the humor and the sweetness of Gay Men. I once saved the life of one of my Gay Freinds, from a beating from a gaggle of HomoPhobe Construction Workers. But, that's a story for an other day.........

the term doesn't apply to someone who has gay friends amongst their circle, it applies to a woman, who targets gay men and tries to hang with them and become friends, because for what ever reason she preferes the company of them.
being friend with gay men just because they are gay, thats not to say a closer friendship wouldn't grow out of it.

I don't think I was a "hag" although the term was leveled at me a few times in college. I have always had diverse freinds, not any group of all one type of people.

Eventually some geneticist will discover the gene which triggers homosexuality among otherwise normal active men and women, and it will be permanently eradicated from the human population.

Until that time they should be welcome with open arms

thats fine.... its like black people calling other black people the "n" word. It would be offensive if I did, as I am not black.

WHC: I see rasicm and aggressive homophobia to be much the same. How can you change people's perceptions if you are afraid of pissing the ignorant off?

 

i should hope not..... there's too much desire to change who you are in this world... or to change who your kids are.... i hope transgendered ppl will become accepted too and not be forced to be a girl or a boy (usually a girl) through surgery and hormones but will be accepted as they are.

anyway, i was a bit of a fag hag for a while... it was good when i wanted to go clubbing with friends but had a long distance relationship... i'd go to gay clubs with gay guy friends and girl friends (and the occassional gay girl or straight guy) who would actually dance with me. i have a few gay friends and i love em. i prefer the company of guys usually and i'm never involved in any sexual frustration with my gay guy friends... they have their own sexual dramas going on constantly... which can be funny and interesting, but sometimes very draining. so... i have a few gay friends and some straight friends and when i want to go clubbing, i definitely prefer the gay clubs.
