By the way - that steal melody from menu should really contain J.S. Bach and Stevie Wonder as well.

i guess you can only listen to jam bands if you are on this site or you will not be excepted...maybe thats why the music forum is going downhill cause its all about jam bands or doors or hendrix or phish or the dead...
    get a life people...

and im not trying to be harsh or rude but you have to understand a tad bit where i am coming from..

I say you write your own shit..i will repect it..

My only problem with rap is that its all about violence and drugs! Most of these "gangstas" grew up in middle class white neighbor hoods. They dont write most their own songs and have no musical talent. Not to say there have not been good rappers. I love Wu-tang...

    amen

In my mind theres two types of rap.

    1. The rap with musical influence, and actual writing. (The Roots, etc...)

    2. Rap that has no content at all. Example: Nelly, who sucks balls

Honey, I hate to burst your bubble, but a lot of music is about or contains messages about violence, drugs and sex. Not just rap. Rock is also a "prime offender."

I say it takes musical talent to be able to make your words flow in the way many rappers do. You have to have a great sense of rhythm and at least a bit of creativity. And if you don't have the creativity, then the people working on the recording with you had better have it... Because if it's not present, then everything just sounds flat.

On a side note, it's threads like these that make me wonder what's wrong with people. Say you like rock; is it then really so horrible to like rap as well? It's like we can't just come out and admit we like rap, hip-hop or r&b (even though all three are a lot more common and integrated into other styles of music than one may think). And rock gods have mercy on our souls if we do admit our interests without adding how much we hate the mainstream, and we only listen to the hardcore "underground" and "just the old stuff!"

I like it alllllllllll, baby. Bring on the music and you know I'll like it... Unless it's polka. I have horrible memories associated with polka.

Yes, lets take it ole skool, kick out some NWA and shit like that. there are very few "rappers" today who have any musical talent! Besides Keller Williams can get up there live on stage lay down his own improvised beat with real instruments and then freestyle over it better than anybody...and he is a white boy from the country!

So, I added the sex bit because I'm tired of hearing the rest of the world complain about it.

And just to let you know, that big rant-thing I did wasn't directed at you in any way at all. Personally, I think you're pretty cool. It was just me blowing off some steam about the mindless idiots who like to tell me how I "can't spell CRAP without RAP!"

Why? Because people are effin' ignorant.

Oh, so I did say drugs, but they are talkin about crack and coke. I wasnt mad. I like some rap. The Roots actually play they're own intruments. I just have no respect for posers, such as Nelly and JA Rule. I put them in the same place as I do Good Charolette and other crappy bands like that...

One thing that I cannot deny about Nelly is that he's really easy on the eyes. I mean, he's rather short, but rawr. He's got a nice voice, too. I can admit that I've never really sat down and actually listened to much of his music. Not enough to properly pay any attention to the lyrics, that is. Although, that one song he recently recorded in collaboration with Tim McGraw turned out nice.
