Esoteric, (Hidden,) Knowledge

Not much. It doesn't matter (to me) if Einstein said that or not. Maybe he was being kind Maybe he gained insights from astrology without really consider it the absolute reality/factual/truthful and therefor could talk respectful about it (an art that seems lost on many people ). The book could be interesting.

 

The following is an excerpt from a writing called The Life of Apollonius of Tyana by Philostratus, c. 170-250. Apollonius was an itinerant philosopher/teacher who was a contemporary of the time of jesus of nazereth and is a figure that embodied much the same qualities as jesus being a teacher/healer who is said to have mastered many things. In fact details about each of their lives could be confused in history as Apollonius is said to have traveled extensively from greece to india. Damis was a student and life long companion of Apollonius. In modern parlance this short section reflects on the limitations of both astrology and astronomy or any observational techniques applied at a distance, that is if you can pick up on what it says.

"The truth is," replied Damis, ''that I thought I should anyhow go down from the mountain wiser than I came up it, because I had heard, O Apollonius, that Anaxagoras of Clazomenae observed the heavenly bodies from the mountain Mimas in Ionia, and Thales of Miletus from Mycale which was close by his home; and some are said to have used as their observation mount Pangaeus and others Athos. But I have come up a greater height than any of these, and yet shall go down again no wiser than I was before."

"For neither did they," replied Apollonius: "and such lookouts show you indeed a bluer heaven and bigger stars and the sun rising out of the night; but all these phenomena were manifest long ago to shepherds and goatherds, but neither Athos will reveal to those who climb up it, nor Olympus, so much extolled by the poets, in what way God cares for the human race and how he delights to be worshipped by them, nor reveal the nature of virtue and of justice and temperance, unless the soul scan these matters narrowly, and the soul, I should say, if it engages on the task pure and undefiled, will soar much higher than this summit of Caucasus."

 

On the idea of personalities being confused in history, Apollonius taught in the cites mentioned as the seven churches in the book of revelation. All in modern day Turkey, a place not mentioned in the travels of jesus and it is said that Apollonius specifically avoided travelling to Judea.

Of course my idea is that the sage, is a common thrust at the human core that looks like the desire for personal attainment of some sort. The common consciousness conspires and we get mutation so to speak and transmutation in the specific as emotion affects the switching mechanisms of the gene. They are bound to appear in ever greater numbers in relation to environmental stress.

Oh man. I'm not sure what the latest entry was meant to impress but I saw a tantric knot of various monsters and confused dissection. I think the theoretical goldfish is nothing like the real one. I wasn't fond of where the "thought experiment" led under his reasoning. Being aware of a constant state of becoming isn't being aware of what is coming at you as that relates to projection of something at a distance. The talk confused various issues such as sense of identity and the becoming estate and his observations of goldfish, regardless whether posited as theoretical were rather superficial or maybe it was because he was building on someone else's description of what a goldfish might perceive. Gold fish is equipped with a variety of sensational cues.

My consideration is a constant state of becoming is complete in it's perpetual appearance. In addition being in the moment means also has been or always is in the moment so memory is recollection of being. A resonance or reflection of being. As we gain experience or grow older we become more familiar with the state of becoming.

 

I agree the travelling car model wasn't that great, but I don't feel it relates to projection. If you can see it it's there, that's what I got, but in relation to looking behind, I can see how it insinuates the opposite.

Like the memory stuff though, feel that one.

No. It is all here. Attention waxes and wanes in a journey without distance. I was referring to the guys statement in the video that being in the moment is to be aware of what is coming at you. Nothing comes at you, you generate your own perspective although you may interpret it as something encroaching on your location through projection of a contracted sense of self awareness.

 

It is well known that people tend to glorify there own case by making less of another. It is entirely possible that a common misquote is an oft repeated urban myth that when repeated does not reflect at all on a persons motives or beliefs, nor is it indicative of lack of ability to apply normal means. Ignorance is not intentional. Deceit or deficit where intended reflects it's own truth.

It was the additional motives, abilities and affiliations that you applied to ignorance that I questioned not the fact that we give preferential treatment.
The fact can be brought up without singling out creationists and certain groups and is more accurately an ubiquitous phenomena among men. In so doing you confuse guilt with innocence. The best way to dispel ignorance in this instance is not by what is commonly known but by proof specific that it is a misquote then it can be assimilated in common.

 

Esoteric is nothing to do with the crap you are spouting.
It is intended for or likely to be understood by a small group of people with a special knowledge or interest if used as an adjective.

 

And what likely hood the hidden be revealed. Could you be specific for example as to what constitutes crap in your estimation that we all might be privy to your superior grasp of statistics. Esoteric means hidden. Knowledge is being shared. To attain esoteric knowledge is to become familiar with the hidden or not readily apparent aspects of being. Refer to the first post in this thread to reorient yourself beyond your beliefs about esotericism. The only people likely to understand a subject are those that are interested in it. What is your interest?

 

this would only be true if we had infinite time to look for it. what keeps more things hidden then we have yet imagined, even hidden from imagining it, is simply that there are so many things.
we're not much bigger then the 'needles', even much smaller then many of them, and the hay stack goes on so far it might as well be infinite.
hidden therefor, often in more or less plain sight, simply because there is such an infinity of diversity for them to be 'hidden' by. its the 'where's waldo' effect.
that's the only thing that's really hiding anything. but because we're looking at what might as well be infinity, the concealment by mass quantity, comes close to 100% effective.

 

I'd agree that we generate our own perspective, but from "external" stimulus, where distance occurs.

Having gone through this, I think I glimpse what you're saying.. the locus is independent of movement, but uhh.. that thought seems impractical at first glance. Interesting.
