me neither. maybe clapton's not Trey or Jerry or Robert Randolph, but i think his music is interesting, relaxing, and entertaining. my friends and i watched a few hours of his crossroads guitar festival stuff on a tv telethon, and it was really fun. he brought out some family and friends to jam with him and that was really exciting. clapton+good company=not bored....and i wasn't bored when i took a half hour at circuit city to watch him with a big, talented band on his live dvd. i'm almost afraid to mention talent in this forum, but more well-intended notes per second and his vast array of licks (he doesn't always play blues, you know) keep my head spinning in wonderment. i don't think his voice sounds as enthusiastic as it could. -2 points. 8/10 haha. wtf.
    peace

yeah. seamonster's tone in this thread sucks. i'm proud to say that i'm bored by ALMOST NOBODY. the exceptions are today's "rock" like matchbox 20, creed, fuel, etc.

yeah, i saw him. he did just what you said. his vocalist rocked though. so did the drummer and the man on keys/flute was awesome. DTB still rocked, and Trucks could be sitting down for all i care. i mostly listen and dance. DVDs and tv are for watching, IMO...haha.

ehh I just like to get a rise out of people sometimes, incedentally, being bored by nobody is hard to believe. Anyway, the meaner I am, the more people that read my opinions.Plus, to me nothing is really holy when it comes to music, I'm not into "it's all good" types of attitudes, I prefer someone who has the balls to tell it like they feel it is.

    HONK-He's fucking bland, stop crying.

i love those "my sole purpose is to annoy others" types. there's nothing really wrong with disliking clapton. but responding to everyone who feels otherwise with what is basically "lool, clapton suxx0rs, omg" is kind of weak.

have I been responding that way?! Not really, I think I've made my points fairly well, I'm not music critic...just a guy who's been here years longer than you and understands what it takes to shake this place up when it needs it.

By the way, where the fuck are coming up with "my sole purpose is to annoy people?"

and what the hell is this : "lool, clapton suxx0rs, omg", I never write in that type of text, and in fact, I never even said he sucked, i said he was boring, and I still think he is.
I'm really enjoying our little arguement though, you are cute kid and everything

you seem to be completely incapable of understanding sarcasm; that was an exaggeration of the fact that you haven't really formulated any actual arguments.

i'm enjoying it as well, the irony of you taking a condescending tone simply because you're older than me really tickles my fancy. age has no bearing on intelligence, and i love that you're now resorting to that sort of ridiculous logic.

i dont quite get the point in your argument. i have a feeling you haven't heard much clapton. do you know how to play guitar? do you understand that it may be incredibly hard to play guitar like he does? maybe he isnt the most amazing person to watch because he's playing great guitar and can't really do all this amazing stuff at the same time. until you can play better than him and dance around on stage at the same time i advise that you shut up.

    hahaha

do you dislike a sports team.say the Pittsburgh Steelers... until you can play football better than them, you can't state an opinion about them.

no opinions allowed unless you arte officially judged better by the supreme court of taste then you can make a simple comment that ERIC CLAPTON IS BORING,

and yea, been playing guitar for years

First, I'm guessing you recieved exactly the type of response that you have elicited. An aggessive message does await regressive responses. That's the name of the game man. Anythings, the first thing to understand about Clapton is he revolutionized contemporary music greater than any other artist in the '60's. No other single guitarist made blues more cuturally acceptable than Clapton. Not to mention legitimizing heavy rock, experimentation with effects modulation, and jamming on stage. And of course, his tone is absolutely transcendant. His stuff with Cream, the Yardbirds, and John Mayall was revolutionary. I'll agree that plenty of his solo stuff can definately be viewed as boring. I dig it, but it's not everyone's thing. The comments about "white deriative blues" "and how we really should be into today's music" really should have no relevance. That was really only designed to piss people off, or at least that's how I viewed it. Music should be one of those rare things that isn't governing by racial differences and time periods. We should commend people for liking Tchaivosky to the Sex Pistols. Yeah...I'll agree that it's sad a lot of people descedit music people made now as "modern shitty pop" but that doesn't mean that people can't enjoy mulitple eras. Good music is good music and everything else can go to hell. I've heard it said, that only boring people get bored...so it's all relative to the person I guess man.

Yeah... haha, Butch Trucks is his uncle... I actually can't believe it, though... he's been playing with Allman Bros. since he was 15... since Butch is his uncle (the drummer).

    Clapton,,

Cream took me to another dimension. Or maybe it was the weed, man.

I wanted to play like Clapton back then. Now, I just want to play like me, but better.

I saw the Yardbirds at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium back in 67 or so. The sound was terrible. I think they broke the sound system. "Over, Under, Sideways, Down" did it for me, and "Shapes of Things",,

Clapton, Page, Beck, all were Yardbirds at one time or another.

Derek Trucks may not move, but he plays real purty. He's really focused, playing slide or not. He's just not as much of a performer as he is a musician. He just stands there and does it. A real technician.

Check out Doyle Bramhall II. He's got some interesting licks, and phrasing.

It's all good. I like to make it my purpose to find the good in things, instead of just criticizing. My parents were professional opera singers, but I couldn't stand opera back then. It just looked like some fat guy standing there in silly costumes, showing off. Jack Bruce, of Cream,,he was my idea of what singing ought to be. But it's all good. If Dylan can "sing", anyone can.

Some of what Clapton does is musically cliched, but not all of it. And just think of the ability he has to bring other talented musicians together. That's why I like it when he lays back and just lets the others shine. John Mayer does well at blues. Better than Clapton, I would say.

    Check out Doyle Bramhall II.

I agree some of his stuff is dull, but he had his moments.

this is one of my favourites, though I don't think he wrote it
