Yeah me too. I'm going to download it again and give it another try though. Maybe I wasn't stoned enough last time, lol.
Maybe those that don't appreciate Lynch should stick to lollypops, apple pie and Doris Day movies. Life is weird, frightening, horrifying and beyond belief on many levels and my take on it is that whatever weird things you can imagine, someone ,somewhere is doing it or has done it. Who could believe Vlad the Impaler could calmly sit and eat among the unbelievably painful screaming of those impaled on poles? Dahmer , Manson and Gacy are a few of the freaks that lived on the edge of madness that Lynch sees among the hum-drum normality that surrounds our everyday lives. We get glimpses of madness as we go thru life, but most of us turn away immediately--it's just not what we want to see and deal with. But the weirdness is there. It's always been there and probably always will be. I've seen some and I'm sure the rest of you have also. I understand what he's trying to do,I think, and Hopper's performance in Blue Velvet brings home the constant danger one can be in if one is living in or around those levels of society. For example I have had 2 brothers lip-synch an Elvis song to me 10 minutes after I met them when they invited a friend and I to get stoned in their apartment..It came out of nowhere and was surreal, to say the least. Admittedly mild but there are these weird people and incidents everywhere if one bothers to look. David Lynch bothers to look and I'm glad he does.
I'm a big fan of David Lynch. As someone said before it was extremely well done, but it's not my favorite Lynch film. However I do own a copy. =D
How I wish I could experience this movie again for the first time. This was one of the first "non-mainstream" movies I watched and it completely blew me away. I've seen many more since then, but Eraserhead is still the closest a film can come to accurately depicting a dream, IMO. The film is, of course, mostly nightmarish. But there are also glimpses of ethereal beauty, such as the "In Heaven" sequence. It's this unlikely blend of emotions (beauty and horror) that gives Eraserhead its unique atmosphere. There is no other film like it.
I love disturbing movies. Who wants something simple? I loved Eraserhead. Elephant Man was also really good.
