its pretty intense stuff whichever way you look at it, from the point of view of "the worlds going to end" to "a huge progression in science" either way its a huge leap in science

Yep. The chamber which the particles are accelerated through are thinner than a human hair. It is an extremley secure enviorment with which to recreate the experience of a few millionths of a second after the Big Bang.

The opening of the complex was actually delayed in court once while physicists proved the point that the earth was not going to be destroyed as a new super black hole or ect happened. The scientific answers over the next 20 years this thing promises are amazing, the prospect of nuclear fusion power alone. A way to make ginormous amounts of electricity in a completely clean way.

Lol, yall are worrying about the wrong thing. Its not the machine that will end the world. It's what they'll learn how to make with it.

Like anti-matter bombs the size of the tip of a pen with the power of a nuke, proton and ion weapons.

man this is interesting shit. world isnt something thaat will last forever, nor us.

im excited, hopefully nothing bad will happen - but i really do want them to go ahead with it. just for science and the major break throughs it could be.

if we all die, we die :/

Wow, I'm just glad that you aren't the one carrying out the experiement.

But the fact is we won't die, the odds are more likely everyone in this thread will die from spontaneous human combustion tonight.

Submarines, rockets and many other things use to be "sci fi" too.

Directed-energy weapons are in development, thats a fact. Laser weapons have been used since WWII to blind thier targets.

".. the first attempt to circulate a beam through the entire LHC is scheduled for 10 September 2008,[4] at 7:30 GMT and the first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on 21 October 2008."

so........ what will we know after tomorrow? anything? or will we have results after October 21, 2008?

dont ask me why but i know alot of physics shit. there trying to find evidence of a particle which basically created mass to put it simply. even if they do create a 'mini black hole' it wont be able to do any damage as it would be there for less than a thousandth of a second. its not gonna end the world its just bullshit hype to sell newspapers and make people scared.

did you know that we have a black hole at the center of our galaxy that has a mass of more than 2 million times that of our sun. i like thinking about space cus it trips me out.

Im gonna go ahead and assume the 21 first from what you just stated... Im pretty sure the first is just a test to see if the machine will actually work... only the high particle collisions can really do something..

get that of wikipedia or just make it up yourself? actually there is scientifically no chance of everyone here spontaneously combusting... That is because the chances of it happening are so small it is below the threshhold of possible so you are quite misguided... Where as truth is that particles accelerating and hitting each other at massive speeds is widely accepted by science as what created the big bang which supposedly started the universe... So bascially theyre trying to recreate the big bang but theyre doing it with 999,999 times more power than the original big bang which supposedly SPAWNED THE UNIVERSE... Im not saying the world is gonna end im just saying its completely possible and there is sceince to prove it...

If it was possible, I would want to be the first person sent into a black hole.

Rofl, How do they know how much energy made the "orginal big bang" when the "big bang" is just a theory?

Anways, Black Hole analogs are not the same thing as gravitational black hole at all.

Of course its theory its imposible to prove something like that... But educated guesses made by a large part of the scientific community widely agree on this theory.. of course it could be untrue but people work lifetimes to try and figure these things out , im pretty sure they might know something about the subject.. And of course that theory could be batshit wrong and this particle accelerator could do absolutely nothing im just presenting some facts
