    Yeah, that's very true. Not everyone can learn by watching a teacher stand in front of the class and write things down on the board. (especially with math[​IMG]) Some learn kinesthetically, linguistically, visually, musically, logically, etc.

    And I sure didn't know that about Saddam. I was never really taken by the WMD theory even at my young age.

    And no, I do not want to be a sheep.

    I want to learn more, about what society really isabout, I mean I know about government corruption, lies, the mindless bullshit that is mass media, television, this new generation relying on all the wrong things to live, and ignore whats happening around us.
    I used to not care, at all. But now I realize that I do care. I want to make change. I want to learn more and figure what I can do about issues that have value to me.
    I will be giving up television, internet, cell phones, and most technology starting this spring in hope that it will give me a better outlook on life.

    Compulsory education doesn't work. My friends have high IQ's, but they don't get good grades because none of the classes are interesting. My school requires four years of math and science...I want to get a major in English, what does science have to do with that? I'm wasting my time on stuff I won't use, when I should be taking English courses. But of course, the school got rid of them (along with most of the arts and music courses) because they didn't have enough "educational value."

    I remember when I was in first grade, I could hardly sit in a desk all day. Now, the high school day is even longer than elementary school, the classes are a lot longer, and starting next August, we will have to attend on Saturday's. It's going too far.

    Yes it does. To truly understand the American Revolution, you have to be able to put it into historical context - ie: with the French Revolution. This is arguably the start of the first wave of democracy (others might date it back further in Britain to the Magna Carta) and especially the sweeping civic changes. These help explain why democracy isn't exactly taking hold in Iraq.

    This vision of history is as skewed as any.

There is certainly NOT just ONE.

    My experience IN school was that there was so much homeworke heaped upon us every single day that we had to totally live our lives being subjected to the school system, from getting up at 6:00am until bedtime. And STILL it could not all be completed "satisfactorily." ONE DAY A WEEK was the only temporary relief we got, because you would spend all day SUNDAY worrying about getting back to school on Monday and having all your work completed... There was little to NO time to do much of anything else.
    Now, it has gone full circle, and MY KIDS seemed to have not much of anything to do at school. It did not matter, as they never seemed to have "grades" but only rankings of "average, above average, and below average". And EVERYONE passed no matter how "average" or below they might be. My youngest 2, the last year they were in a public school controlled "homeschool" they were totally unsupervised regarding their grades OR school work, and were never even TESTED to see if they "passed"... Nobody cared...

    No, there is one way of educating children in an affordable way to make sure they all have a common, basic, level of education: that is en masse.

    ...is anecdotal, and therefore a piss-poor way to make sweeping educational assumptions.

    They got rid of english, arts, and music? That's terrible. English is one of my favorite classes, I love arts, and I'm in orchestra. If my school did that I would be so angry. And I could not survive going to school 6 days a week...no way. That's way too far. I know they have 6 days of school in Japan, but atleast they're probably used to it.

    The best thing you can do is think for yourself, and teach your kids to do the same. Education isn't necessarily something that's done at school, it's something that's done in your head, when you look at stuff--you size it up, you break it down, you figure it out...

    I was spoiled in school 'cause my dad was a brilliant professor. He taught me how to "get with the program" early in life. He taught me how to think outside the box, so when it came to school, it was easy. I had the mental framework to get the shit done, and it didn't matter that I got stoned for advanced physics, I was blessed with the ability to throw my mind at whatever the subject was, whether it be English or Calculus (I particularly dug Hemingway and Newton). I could put it together, make it work. I never spent much time studying till college, then I studied my ass off. It was hard, but it gave me an opportunity to go to "work" and get paid for solving the problems that have become my hobby and my livelihood.

    Ultimately, it's not what you throw down on a test or what grade you get, it's what you take with you that counts.

    It really sucks to hear of people who were oppressed by "education", 'seems like the system failed a lot of folks, and in many places I'm sure it's a gate to segregate people, like if you're fortunate enough to come from a privileged family like I did, you learn how to play the game. If you didn't, you're screwed.

    Note that I made it 'cause I played the game. I knew da rules, and I played 'em, but I've known plenty of folks who were "rejected" by the "education" system, yet they'll give y'all a run for your money any day in a conversation.

    Consider this. The president of our country went to Yale, and he's a dumb ass, as we all know. Granted he had a low "C" average, but somehow they let him graduate, 'might've been 'cause daddy threw some big bucks at the school.

    And another piece of trivia, my father was a Rhodes Scholar, got his PhD from Oxford, and God bless him, he always had contempt for Clinton, because Clinton said he was a Rhodes Scholar, but he never graduated.

    ^^ how can they have gotten rid of english? i go to a french school and both english and french are compulsory for 4 years. (science 2, math 3).

    "Anecdotal" stories are the most VALUABLE, as they give the biggest TRUE picture of what is ACTUALLY going on within the public educational system. We can listen all day to politicians or school board members ramble on about how grand their educational systems are and what wonderful things they are trying to do, but the proof is in the pudding.

    And who said that if a kid can't read by the time they are 10 that their lives are completely ruined? It CAN, however, really mess with a kid to be FORCED to do things they are not prepared for by people who have no clue how to make even the basics interesting, nor the time to work individually with those who have special problems. Public school is far from efficient in terms of actually EDUCATING people in things that are truely IMPORTANT. Too many kids per teacher for starters. They are marginally efficient babysitters! I personally would NOT want many of the teachers or principals I know to babysit my kids or grand kids for any length of time, even one on one, so I sure as hell would not hire them if I did need a babysitter! Now, why would I wish to leave my kids with these weird strangers who do not share my values or morals every day all day long????

    I found the most efficient way to educate kids is to SWAP homeschooling with other parents I KNOW. Your OWN kids know all your buttons and can push them easily. It's too difficult to get them to see you as a mom AND teacher...

    I REALLY think that once a kid has learned reading and writing and some basic math WELL, they can do most anything else on their own interest and enthusiasm. But kids who have lost all interest and enthusiasm don't do so well. Just don't forget, KIDS and TEENAGERS have a far shorter attention span generally than adults. They are not as serious as a rule, they get caught up in many other things besides "education". THAT is natural. But instead we force them to do the exact opposite of this and if they don't do it well enough to suit us we chastise them. It's total b.s.

    I doubt highly that ANYONE wants to be illiterate! Nor do I think for a minute that anyone wants to feel like they are stupid because they can't keep up. The act of "not caring" on the part of a student is simply a cover for those things. Yet we ruin the idea of education from the time our kids are just little, then expect them to do it anyhow, and at the proper speed! It's a miracle that kids can sit still and learn ANYTHING in these conditions.
    The OLDER a person gets, the more physically, emotionally, and intellectually ready they become to get into some serious learning. So, I'll say again, the educational system as it is set up BY LAW is total B.S.

    Did I ever say that our (and I'm using "our" not because we live in the same country with the same school system but because of the shared Classical tradition) was perfect?

    No. I'm saying that public schools are economically efficient, deserve more funding to provide a better and well rounded education. Taking out a third of the work force to teach children is not efficient.

    Of course, I don't think much of your education ideas in general, either, and think this "unschooling" trend is big heaping of bullshit. If a 15-year old can't sit through 6 hours of class, that is his failing - not the education system.

    Kids of any age are not statistics. And I doubt that the "bigger is better" scenario makes public schools all that efficient, all things taken into account. A 15 year old might be able to sit thru 6 hours of boredom, every day for most of their lives as 15 year olds, but what makes that efficient? Efficient to who and for what?

    We DON'T need to END COMPULSORY EDUCATION, but we need to DRAMATICALLY CHANGE it into something: WORKABLE, REALISTIC, EFFICIENT and EVEN FUN!!! As in MEDICINE, a person's DNA is unique (onto him/herself) and slightly differs from everybody elses! Slight variations in "brain-wiring" are also a consideration in PUBLIC EDUCATION! Smaller classrooms, with INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION to DNA-(learning differences) would be IDEAL!!!

    As a MINIMUM, every child should at least learn to READ and WRITE, and know REALISTIC and FUNCTIONAL CONCEPTS of: MATH, SCIENCE, AGRICULTURE, SURVIVAL IN NATURE, LITERATURE and the ARTS, then have a NEXT LEVEL of EDUCATION to pursue their ACTUAL LEARNING PURSUITS and PASSIONS! EDUCATION doesn't stop at SCHOOL, as PARENTS have to teach their children many other interests, plus their own MORAL and SPIRITUAL VALUES!

    "earthmother" is right in the idea that children learn more out of school!!! Out of school, I taught myself about QUANTUM and HYPER-DIMENSIONAL PHYSICS, and ADVANCED SCIENCES! Sometimes, I'd be teaching the teachers!!! AGRICULTURE and HOME-CRAFTING are IMPORTANT things to learn, and should be taught in a PROPER EDUCATION SYSTEM! WE STILL HAVE TO HAVE FOOD FOR OUR PHYSICAL SURVIVAL!

    EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT! It just shouldn't be a "baby-sitting" job, as "earthmother" implied in her POST #31 (in this THREAD). Unfortunately, DUMB PEOPLE are taken advantage of, by PREDATORY SMART PEOPLE (but NOT by LOVING and COMPASSIONATE SMART PEOPLE)! PROPER KNOWLEDGE helps to insure our BEST SURVIVAL CHANCES in the universe!!! MIND and SPIRIT must evolve TOGETHER (as a PACKAGE)!

    In GEORGE W. BUSH (JR.'S) recent "STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS", he mentioned the: "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND PROGRAM", as a huge success!!! REALLY??? BUSH JR. has been politcally-SATIRED as: "the VILLAGE IDIOT" and "a DIM BULB"! Nice PERSPECTIVE VIEWPOINT, here!!!

    Alot of knowledge that we are taught in the PUBLIC SCHOOL (FOOL?) SYSTEM is wrong, "out-dated" and simply SOCIALLY-ENGINEERED PROPAGANDA, especially HISTORY. BASIC MATH and SCIENCES are mostly TRUTHFUL! ADVANCED SCIENCES (like QUANTUM PHYSICES, HYPER-DIMENSIONAL PHYSICS, TIME-SPACE TRAVEL SCIENCES, GENETIC ENGINEERING, and so forth. are considered "CLASSIFIED" and HIDDEN from our VIEW!!! Luckily, the WORLD-WIDE WEB (INTERNET) provides the GENERAL PUBLIC with some "tid-bits" of that "CLASSIFED" and "HIDDEN" KNOWLEDGE, with both PLANNED and UNPLANNED (INTELIGENCE) "leaks"!!!

    As time passes on, MANKIND makes NEW DISCOVERIES and INVENTIONS, and we must RE-DO our EDUCATIONAL books, but sometimes there is just LAZINESS to change them, or PERSONAL PRIDE (in admitting that the OLD IDEAS were not EXACTLY RIGHT)!!! If an OLD IDEA has been HIGHLY-PROFITABLE, and a NEW IDEA (and more ACCURATE CONCEPT) comes along to replace it (i.e. "rock the STATUS QUO boat"), the NEW IDEA (and/or CONCEPT) may be supressesd for a LONG TIME, like FREE-ENERGY DEVICES!!!

    Generally, NEW IDEAS, CONCEPTS, DISCOVERIES and INVENTIONS are met with GREAT RESISTANCE, by the STATUS QUO, as it UPSETS their current LEVEL OF COMFORT and STABILITY!!! WE HUMANS must learn by "TRIALS and ERRORS" and LIFE'S EXPERIENCES. THE UNIVERSE must CHANGE and CREATE (QUANTUM PHYSICS)!!! EVOLUTION must eventually occur!

    Our current EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM teaches us that STARS (like our SUN/SOL) is a giant NUCLEAR-REACTOR, which gives off heat and light, and that the closer planets are always WARMER than the further away planets (which were believed to be always COOLER), just like when you get closer to a BON-FIRE, it feels HOTTER to you, and when you move further away from the BON-FIRE, it feels COLDER to you.     But new scientific discoveries have proven this to be WRONG!!! The NEW THEORY is that our SUN is predominately ELECTRO-MAGNETIC (THE ELECTRIC SUN - THEORY), and not predominately NUCLEAR!     In the 70's (80's?, 90's?), I had 2 (PROPHETIC?)     PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM "grades" don't always seem as a good "YARDSTICK" MEASURE for INTELLIGENCE, as THOMAS ALVA EDISON didn't do too well in his PUBLIC SCHOOLS in PORT HURON, MICHIGAN, but learned on his own, from a LAB he constructed aboard a GRAND TRUNK Railroad car (when he had a job with the GRAND TRUNK Railroad, in MIchigan, peddling food and tobacco items)!!!     EDUCATE YOUSELF!!! PLUS, YOUR OWN CHILDREN!!! Don't DEPEND on the COMPULSORY SCHOOL (FOOL?) EDUCATION SYSTEM!!!

    So the pro-education argument would be that it provides your kids an in-road to the "real world", and by depriving them the opportunity to have that choice, you're limiting them.

    Then again, the "real world" sucks anyway, so if kids can learn the skills they need to survive and have a decent life in their own world (so long as that world of theirs empowers them with the ability to make their own choices), what are they missing? They can get an appreciation for knowledge outside school.

    - CONSPIRACIES AND HYPER-DIMENSIONAL REALITIES -

    Many modern CONSPIRACIES (for PLANETARY CONTROL - WORLD DOMINATION) are traced to ANCIENT EGYPT, BABYLON and ROME, however, they really go further back into ANCIENT ATLANTIS and ANCIENT LEMURIA times, and maybe even FURTHER back to other STAR SYSTEMS!!! But I'm only describing our one LINEAR-TIMELINE, and in a MULTI-DIMENSIONAL UNIVERSE, LINEAR TIME (past, present and future DIVISIONS) is an ILLUSION!!! We HUMANS like to PERCEIVE OUR UNIVERSE in PARTS, instead of WHOLES!!! There is only THE ETERNAL NOW, which was a spiritual concept, taught about in the 1960's!!!

    The assumptioms made are more like this:

    a) Education is required to lead both a fulfilling and economically productive life. Children do not always have enough foresight to realise this, and therefore the decision is best not left up to them.
    b) The average parent does not possess the competence to provide a well-rounded education.
    c) Ergo, the government has stepped in and provides an education.
    d) This government education isn't compulsory - you are allowed to send your child to private schools or homescool them.

    I don't see what the problem here is. Obviously the government education system isn't perfect, but that is a different arguement.

    I agree, and most parents don't have the time.

    A major problem that I see these days with the schools is the fear they're handed in the name of "security", what kinda message does it send them when they're not allowed to do anything for themselves? It's the victim mentality, and the only way to overcome this is to reprogram your kids at home, which brings us back to what I've been saying all along, that education is the parent's responsibility as much as it is the school's.

    Most of my posts are ESOTERIC, involving: HIDDEN KNOWLEDGE, ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE and INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION, which is VALID and USEFUL information, but is kept SECRET (for AGENDA purposes of CONTROL).     DAILY (MAINSTREAM) LIFE is mainly SUPERFICIAL, which is like the SURFACE (and WAVES) of the OCEAN. ESOTERICS involve the GREAT DEPTHS of the OCEAN, and serves for the FOUNDATION of its SURFACE and WAVES!!! Consider that the OCEAN'S DEPTHS are a far GREATER VOLUME, than it's SURFACE VOLUME!!! SUPERFICIAL KNOWLEDGE is just a NARROWING OF CONSCIOUSNESS, from ESOTERIC KNOWLEDGE!!!

    Our current COMPULSORY EDUCATION SYSTEM is pretty much very SUPERFICIAL KNOWLEDGE, which is alright. We should receive a good BASE (FOUNDATION) of BASIC and PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE, like in BASIC: MATHEMATICS, SCIENCES, LANGUAGES, LITERATURE and ARTS, then in the NEXT LEVEL OF EDUCATION, FREELY choose your PATH of LEARNING PASSIONS!!! Of course, I'd PREFER TRUTHFUL (and ACCURATE) INFORMATION to LIES, in our EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM!!!

    If you're into HIGHER ESOTERIC KNOWLEDGE, there are many SPIRITUAL and/or HYPER-DIMENSIONAL WORKSHOPS and CONFERENCES to FREELY-CHOSE from!!! Plus, THE INTERNET!!! You could also join the FREEMASONS and/or INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES, but those areas are HIGHLY COMPARTMENTALIZED, so you ONLY learn a small piece of the whole PUZZLE (i.e. non-HOLOGRAPHIC KNOWLEDGE), unless you're at THE TOP OF THE PYRAMID ("THE EYE OF HORUS").     The JESUITS (VATICAN) are commonly linked to the NAZI-ARYANS. These aren't SPIRITUAL PEOPLE!!! MILITANT, FASCIST, and New World Order, YES!!!     The HEBREWS were originally more "harmonious", during their CITY ("VORTEX") OCCUPATION in ATLANTIS (being supposedly more LEFT-BRAINED (FEMALE) - EMOTIONAL, LOVING, INTIUTIVE), but somehow, somewhere over TIME-HISTORY, the ARYANS' "Mischievous Monkeys" (NIKOLA TESLA's TERM for the NAZIS and young George Bush (Scherff), Sr., or "CURIOUS GEORGE" THE MONKEY) traits may have "rubbed-off" on the HEBREWS (during ANCIENT ATLANTEAN TIMES - before 12,000 B.C., or later), which through the TALMUD, developed the NAZI-type FASCIST IDEAS of: ZIONISM and COMMUNISM.

    RUSSIA is about half-JEWISH and half-CHRISTIAN, but KARL MARX and VLADIMIR LENIN were JEWISH (or KHAZARAN converts to JUDAISM???)!!! JOSEPH STALIN constantly read the TALMUD!!! ANCIENT "BANISHED ARYANS" ("TECHNOLOGICAL ARYANS", LINK: www.thule.org/aryans.html ) eventually created the philosophy of NAZISM, who may have influenced the HEBREWS to create COMMUNISM and ZIONISM. Are these FASCIST REGIMES linked to the TROUBLESOME ARYANS (MARTIANS of MARS- "God of War"), who may have destroyed TWO PLANETS with their RIGHT-BRAINED TECHNOLOGIES?     PHIL SCHNEIDER (who was a GEOLOGIST/EXPLOSIVES "EXPERT" for the U.S. GOVERNMENT, involved in the construction of SECRET "Deep Underground Military Bases" (DUMB'S)), would always say before one of his lectures (which are still available on: YouTube or GOOGLE VIDEOS): "You'd better put on your SKEPTICALS (SKEPTICAL-SPECTACLES (GLASSES)), when you listen to me.     My POSTS are LONG, because (just like in INTELLIGENCE work), you must presesent the many PUZZLE PIECES, then try to connect the RIGHT PIECES in the RIGHT ORDER!!!
