I guess it's just like a bad joke, you just have to be there for it to be funny. Well nothing's open now so no chance of bumping into you there. Its a jolly little place, I'm so sick of hearing the words "feeder bands"
hey but maybe we will pass each other un-knowingly in some florida place sometime later. whoa! bless you Brother!
maybe it's the voyeuristic strain in me... but i just can't seem to turn off the TV. i just sit and stare at the storm graphics and watch the footage of roofs being torn off, etc... all the gloom and doom... i guess things will change when it is going on right outside my window. natural disasters have such an interesting effect on the mind. i feel the same kind of anticipation that i used to feel on christmas eve... but of course, i'm not wishing, just waiting. the best thing is what i've seen while out and about today... neighbors helping each other. death and destruction always bring people together. so take care, brothers and sisters.
Voyeuristic huh? Reminds me of that episode of that 70's show where red gets cable and stops hyde from watching porn to watch the weather
We've been getting periodic, short lasting rains for a few hours now. Nothing more than a rainy Florida night so far. The winds look to be about gale force now, with tropical force gust. The roof is holding up so far. Some of the local stoner kids patched it with tarps and it's holding. All the leaks have stopped. I don't know how much wind it will take after Charley- we skimmed the eye. the news says two million people have lost power. I hope the fuck we don't. I had enough of that shit. Looks like Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda is going to yet survive- but look out Tampa- a rainy Sunday is coming.
Shit, my power just went down...switching to battery back-up. Brooksville: winds: N @ 20MPH sustained gusts to 37 pressure: 29.54 falling
Damn, I knew I should have brushed my teeth this AM instead of getting on Hip Forums. No power = no well pump. I guess I'll be dipping in the spa for my shower.
Holy shit! The rain's going sideways..just like on TV! I'm a little scared....that I'll lose my internet connection Nah.
Tampa is getting some stronger gusts now... fairly sustained. the tops of the trees look like they might go. not much rain. the power is still on thankfully looks like the worst of it should be here this afternoon. so we'll see. everybody into the cellar! oh wait... no cellar. damn
I thought this was going to weaken to a tropical storm by now. It's still a hurricane, and gettin closer. Fuck! It's already gusting harder here than in any other 'tropical storm' that I've gone through here. Cool part is that my carport that I built without permits, is standing strong, Unlike the contractor built one that was here when I bought the place. The first big storm took that one down. I used the insurance $ and built a bigger one with my own two hands. Hehehe...it's rock solid so far!
i'm checking the radar images every so often... now the outer part of the eyewall is moving through Polk County... right next door. it is looking mean. what's crazy about this is the fact that Tampa got some of the most outer-bands of this storm nearly 24 hours ago. 24 hours and the eye hasn't even hit us yet. the backside of the storm is still over the ocean. this bitch is huge! the satellite pictures are just insane. the whole state is being eaten alive...
The dog's laying in front of the fireplace hearth making all kinds of obnoxious noises, chomping away on a raw hide bone. She's totally oblivious to everything else. Thanks for the image 4_Leaf. The satellite dish is still attached to the roof and the roof to the house and the house to the ground and I'm using a deep cycle marine battery with a power inverter and I still see channel 13. They say Tampa's gusting to over 40MPH and we're only getting high 30's here. Gotta love technology!
the trees are starting to bend. lotta small debris on the ground, and it's only going to get worse in the next hour. the center of the hurricane will be here pretty soon. i am sitting here looking out the window. i've got the window open, you know, to compensate for the imbalance in atmospheric pressure. when the shit goes down, i might have to move, though. rain, rain, go away, come again another day...
We've been getting our worst wind and rain this morning. There's alot of Charley debris blowing down the street, but it's not bad. The roof has commenced to leaking a little.
same here with the worst wind and rain. the backside of this storm is worse than when the center hit us yesterday. oh well. luckily, we never lost power, and there is no extensive damage, although i've heard about many trees and powerlines down in the area. i hope everyone made it through alright...
Hey 4_Leaf_Clover, HippieInMyMind, geckopelli, RavingSultan, sunkissedgreemfarie, and the rest of ya'll in the "Sunshine State", are you OK? Haven't heard from you lately?
I was in California when it was attacking FL. My parents live in Clermont and my boyfriend's mom lives in Silver Springs. When we got back home Monday we checked in. All weekend we were watching the news and I really thought my parents were getting pounded. Apparently the weather map looked much worse than what was really happening because she said they just had wind and rain and nothing terrible. My boyfriends mom had to evacuate though because they live in a mobile home park basically in the woods. She said when they got back the neighborhood was a wreck but there was no significant damage. Over all though Marion County got hit hard she said. So our families are ok, but what a scary mess.
we're cool for now... if Ivan stays south. Finally got an insurance adjuster coming out here to look at the roof. It's patched together with tarps now.
You know, I moved to Orlando back in July, never been through a hurricane before, like actually been in contact w/one, and Charley was all right, I was hoping for a little more from Frances, but unfortunately, she was a beautiful storm, but man, if she had stayed a 3 or above, would've had some respect for her... Can't wait for Ivan! AdreA
