Anyone who goes out of their way to say he isn't a twat is being politically correct. See just as easy to project stupid stuff on those peeps too :p

i don't fight with children....but i had to quote you ust to be a dick

i fell asleep at zappa....show was for people with musical degrees...i think miss cyrus is a survivor...kid star to full blown pop superstar....cant be easy.....she was very very good on Saturday night live......

it is fun to see how people actually think she was handed undeserved fame...

Elton johnny....saw him too....i don't think i fell asleep if that means anything....he had some cool light up sunglasses and he knows a note or two on the keyboards

moonglow...Elton john and jis legal husband[Canada] live just north of Mississauga Ontario where i grew up...his husband is a canucklehead and if i remember right..either a decorator/designer...or maybe a theatre guy...he is far past admitting homosexuality..

Zappa sounds like one of these guys people say they dig to seem cool but dont really listen to becuase he never had any "hits". The bios seem to be more about who he rubbed shoulders with rather than what his music did

I think Elton was comparing Miley's use of "shock entertainment" to make money, the same way Frank did. I don't think he was referring to their musical ability. But Elton John doesn't do "TWAT", he's a bum lover. But is he a pitcher or a catcher?

I don't have a favorite EJ song, RJ...Love so many of them......
Thanks for all of the Zappa songs...it is impressive he wrote and recorded for Audobon, but his style is not my cup of tea. Maybe it is an acquired taste, and I have not acquired it yet.

Well VG here's his biggest hit:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p-LArv-sEQU

Ironically the whole Vallry Girl thing he was mocking became a major fad in the early 80s. I seem to remember having sticker on my lunchbox in first grade that said "Gag me with a spoon". TV characters based on the archetype popped up, movies made etc. As a matter of fact in his later years when he was getting his orchestral works done he would joke with his daughter Moon Unit aka the voice of the insipid airhead, "Financially Valley Girl made this possible.

I also believe this one was pretty big in Europe:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb7zH-UoJYk

Then there is the fact that Zappa is I believe the only artist in the music business to own all of his own publishing and master tapes of every album he made (about 70 total) and the films that he made going all the way back to his first one. Or the fact that his first album "Freak Out" was the first double album to be released.

And he was an outspoken critic of censorship even testifying before congress:

So to me all of these things put Zappa in an entirely different universe than Miley Cyrus.

Politically correct? What is that? You obviously don't know ME very well....lololololol
Everyone says stupid things one time or another.....I guess EJ is no exception to go back to original post....but in the scales of things.....my like for him outweighs any dislike I may have for something stupid he may have said....so i have no need to call him a twat at this time.

Think "Catholic Girls" on Joe's Garage was his best in the "shock" genre... but this is his best musical talent.....

I'll admit I was kind of going for shock value on that one. Although that was my initial response when I read that little quip. I actually like a lot of pre Disney Elton John. I also joke that he is every homophobes favorite gay man. Both Axl Rose and Eminem got shit for homophobia and it seemed like the first thing that either of them did was duets with Elton John.

Ha ha, well thats not a piece you would necessarily play at a party or walk around humming while cleaning the house, thats for sure.
Most of his music is not meant for casual listening, you have to pay attention.

Catholic girls was not done for shock value.

First of all, that was a piece from a particular act about a pivotal character in the opera , Mary.

Second, as a stand alone piece, it is a documentation of a type of person that actually exists, just like "Valley girl"

miley cyrus's first album went quadruple platinum......

those are facts.......I am a huge miley cyrus supporter...I am not a ''fan'' of any performer.

And McDonalds has sold billions and billions of hamburgers that doesn't make them great.

Incidentally here is footage from Zappas only SNL appearance:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RWoxUvWHtB4

All of these tracks sound just like Miley Cyrus.

The whole point of this discussion has been about the absurdity of comparing Zappa to Miley Cyrus. Not who's better.

  20. I always thought twat was slang for vagina, but frankly I wanted to know what bad connotations for vagina it is implying. Are we actually saying that to love a woman is to love her for her mind, so that to compare Elton John to a twat is to say that he's a worthless piece of meat?

You just care about her feelings and want to see her succeed. Even if you wouldn't classify her "successes" as being particularly brilliant, as long as she feels happy, you're happy.
