I love dubstep, but all the big name artists (Rusko, Caspa, Benga, Skream) that founded the genre are really stale in my opinion. I can only listen to Rusko or Caspa for so long until I notice that all of their tunes are just the same formula. That's why I listen to the "Wonky" subgenre. Artists like Mike Slott, Lone, and Kona Triangle are absolutely where it's at. That's not to say I don't enjoy some good hard dubstep every once in a while, but the hardest and filthiest dubstep is NOT being produced by the big names who founded the genre. The second generation dubstep producers are fucking nuts!
Love both ends of the spectrum. Bratkilla, Skevist, Level 67 & Clank when I'm feeling filthy, and you can never go wrong with good ole classic Skream or Digital Mystikz for some chilled out dubstep.
I LUV DUBSTEP! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ0dFRNF-OE"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ0dFRNF-OE
jk jk jk.... I hate dubstep pretty much though but pretty much every genre has a couple gems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGCc0WqvVT4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGCc0WqvVT4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZnpikoHNWw"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZnpikoHNWw
skream, coki, rusko, caspa, and benga would be good generic ones but if you want more unique stuff but thats not as much like traditional dubstep then listen to burial
Look of TheZerg253 on youtube. His dubstep channel is FAT! When you're done with that look through TheFilthEffect
Idk man, dubstep was the hottest section of music at the starscape festival this year. People like Wu Tang are starting to make real hiphop/dubstep raps. Even on the radio I here the waaa wee waaa sounds in random songs. Its only the beginning.
yah dubstep definitely seems like it's getting big, but I think alot of the people who were there at the beginning of it kind of want it to be over.
The original dubstep guys still like dubstep but now it's gotten so big that there's a "mainstream" kinda' thing. There's also people who just make a simple kick snare and a shitty single tone bassline and call it dirty instead of...shit. I like it as long as it's well produced
Music history lesson kids. when a genre goes mainstream it effectively alienates itself from its former underground fanbase. See also late 90s- early 00's trance era. I'm into more IDM, experimental dub. Labels that I feel are pushing the sound forward include Planet Mu records, Black Acre records, and Hyperdub records. Amidst all the bandwagon jumping there is some creativity and experimentation going on. Lorin is probably one of the most popular dubstep artists out there. Doubt anyone hasn't heard of him by now lol. He was one of the first big US headliners when dubstep was getting popular back in 06-07. Hes a good producer but live shows are hit or miss. Saw him live years back but then he was doing mostly mashups.
Mount Kimbie, 2562, Clubroot, Martyn, KnowaKnowone, SexyTime, NastyNasty, Shlohmo, Appleblim, Timonkey (his new album is mostly dubstep, unlike his previous releases... which are better though lol but he is still tight..) I really think dubstep is getting watered down at this point. there are new releases every day, and only a fraction are legit. I think australia has a really cool electronic scene going now, very organic.
I love your taste in music sir. Timonkey is barely dubstep its glitchy organic goodness..... fucking key! This is the future kids take note: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IddDWBpkzYg"]YouTube- Eskmo - Cloudlight (Official Video) HD
