its illegal in ny... but just wear sandals and slip em off to the side and if ye get pulled over slip em back on.
I never drive roadtrips with shoes, keep a pair of slippers next to me though so I can get gas and such... and if I'm not getting out of the car on short trips I usually don't wear shoes... So much nicer!
This topic has gone around and around here, but some people just have to spread the bright light of ignorance around-- Driving barefoot is legal in every U.S. state. People have checked it, even written to state governments about it. It's legal.
I drive my tractor bare foot (i work barefoot on the farm), i drive cars barefoot, i ride my scooter barefoot and my bicycle. Only ever had one cop bitch at me for riding my scooter barefoot. I said "look, i've got no gloves on either and neither is against the law" started the engine and rode off just leaving him standing there open mouthed before he could say another word.
Definitely! IMHO, you can feel the pedals better. Also, whenever I'm at the beach with my partner, occasionally we'll be climbing some rocks. To me, I can climb over rocks much better, also... which pretty much surprises him!
Bouldering is a lot easier barefoot. I have had to haul folks out that were wearing shoes while I was barefoot. One time the guide told me not to go barefoot, but when he had to be hauled out by a barefooter, he was grateful. I had to remove my boots to get to him.....LOL!!! Oh....and I always drive barefoot...otherwise my legs and feet tend to go to sleep on long trips and shoes are too hot....they make my feet sweat.
SRV.. Ive been saving this video for an active Barefoot thread.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqBW3uKOxwc&feature=related"]Stevie Ray Vaughan-Barefootin' (1973) - YouTube I drive barefoot often, I think its illegal here..
I used to drive barefoot, then after suffering from swollen feet in the heat of california and new mexico I started about 8 days ago to drive barefoot again and guess what no swelling! from now on Im going barefoot tho wearing boots for rough terrain as my feet cant handle the heat yet or rough rocks..
I dont think it's legal here. Not aloud to drive in thong's either (flip flop's! dont get too excited you americans!) I think kiwi's call them jandles...
It is not illegal to drive barefoot in Texas nor any other state as far as I know. However, beware of states that have a blanket "Unsafe operation of a motor vehicle". If you get a real asshole cop, they can try and nail you under that generic statute. But I drive barefoot all the time in Texas and in Egypt also, never had an issue.
People occasionally say that driving barefoot is illegal in this or that location and they never seem to be able to back it up with facts. If you think it's illegal where you are, why do you believe it?
Facts often get in the way. I guess it's more about feeling good that you are "right" than knowledge of any actual laws. We should feel sorry for them.
