Me either. I will never own a pure bred dog again....my mom got her and ended up being my dog. I didn't pay for her. She's a great a dog no less and get rid of her for the world.
I'm not a fan of Dobermans really. They always seemed to be in the same category as a Rott, just meaty and stupid. Plus any dog that requires clipping of the tail and ears to be put considered "breed" standard is pretty ridiculous. If those aren't desired traits, breed them out of the dog, don't chop them off. I think that's super cruel to cut any dog's ear and tail off. Most of the time it's already done by the breader. I have seen lots with their ears still but none with it's tail. Shame people cut the dog's body parts.
I like dobermans because they're extremely loyal and they're not one of those dogs that need constant attention I'm not into needy animals. I like strong independent ones
start here. http://www.texalmal.org/ Malamute might not be the best thing in texas unless you don't mind them staying inside a lot (in the AC). They would die in the heat. I live in Indiana and I have to watch mine in the spring and summer. A rescue wouldn't hurt since they are already there. But you have to very mindful when you walk and run them outside. No matter how hot or tired they get, they will never stop if you make them. They can literally run themselves to death in the heat. AND they are super hairy. Hairy beyond comprehension. They shed all year around and twice a year they shed the entire coat and grow a new one...Just some negatives to a malamute that everyone should know about before they get one.
yeah, I definitely couldn't have a dog right now, or at least not a big dog like I want. so I guess I'll stick with cats till I get a yard with a fence. And I was joking about a malamute in TX, it would be absurd to have a sled dog in this heat.. maybe I'll give in and move to CO someday, ha. as far as dobermans go, I have only met 2, and they were some of the most kickass dogs I have played with, we played frisbee and they were pros at fetch. but I don't know much about the breeding standards.. it's all pretty sad imo.
This is Nisa. She's a 12ish yr old foxy X. Shep my border collie. R.I.P This is smuggler, And this is banjo, my fawn coloured kelpie. She's 2 weeks old now, I can't wait to meet her!
Gahhh I LOVE Dobermans. My mum worked in a pub when I was little and I'd play with the two dobe guard dogs all day. Guarding breeds are my favourite
My dad has a dog that's bred with a kelpie and border collie. Smart cunning dogs. They were bred in australia, and the unofficial history says that in the early 1900's a breeder was breading Australian Sheppard and wild dingo's mated with then resulting in a very interesting dog. This apparently happened all over in rare (unconfirmed) circumstance resulting with a very dingo like domesticated herding dog. Very cool dogs if you ask me. The are smaller dogs and very identifiable by their tall pointy German Sheppard like ears. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Kelpie
A kelpie isn't recognized by the AKC because of their lack of standard, cosmetically. The same with my dad's 'border collie' which isn't registrable by the AKC. They are bred for their agility, intelligence, and superior herding capabilities. They all vary by breeder and genetic line...but a good kelpie is good a one thing, herding. My dad uses his dog to herd pigs...without any training, she was damn good as a pup.
