cool. there was definitely a flood. doesnt mean multiple stories werent written about the same event. go figure?
if they really found this ark, it could very well not be coincidence, but certainly is not proof of anything but the fact that an ark of such measurements did indeed exist. I don't disagree with this. I just have a different idea of what God is. I think all those things are God. But I do not think of God as a creator. I see God as all that ever was, is, and will be. God is matter and God is life. Updating language does not change the fact that the text is archaic. Sure, some ideas in the bible are long-standing and ever-true. But some things are ludicrous, as I'm sure you will agree, and are obvious reflections of the times in which they were written. For example, I would hope that we can live a more accepting society than that of the fearful people who burned Sodom and Gomorrah. Spirituality must evolve, just as society and government have.
it suggests that the story of Noah is true [ if the measurements are exactly the same ] but i'm sure you'd deny that evidence anyways. even though that boat is the largest boat ever found in history. if this story of Noah was accepted as true, why not the entire Bible?
It hasn't been accepted as true though and not only that. Should the bible be right on that one thing, it is wrong on countless others
Maybe you'd be better served studying Philosophy and Logic than the Bible, which, by all acounts has been edited several times by the hands of ambitious men.
I think that whoever added the story of noah to the bible heard the epic of gilgamesh or some other oral flood story (back then most stories were told orally) and thought it would be a good addition to his collection of myths/morality tales.
Zilla - i have nothing to disagree with you on. you have your opinion and i have mine. Pat - obviously you're just going to disagree with me no matter what. you're the know it all, after all. Jim - no thanks, i have faith in my roots Enjoy - i've read that book already Greenearth - i'm not even a "christian" as you probably think of it. i'll say it again, i'm a judeao-christian following the laws of Moses and Jesus.
Not if you provide me with solid proof. i can cite tons of biblical statements that prove it's wrong. Can you show me some that prove that it's right?
The epic of gilgamesh was one of the very first written stories, ever. Written in cuineform, in ancient Sumer, who gave us math, government and writing. In their story, gods came to earth to enslave the neanderthals they found here, so that they could mine gold to fix the atmosphere of the gods home planet. Genetic engineering lead to modern man, and the gods fought among themselves concerning our destiny. A battle that lead some gods to protect us and some to want us destroyed... Check out the writings of Zeceriah Sitchin, who is one of the only scholars who can read Sumerian. Wild shit, and every bit as plausible as a 'virgin birth'. More so, in my opinion...
corey your logic is so off here that its pointless to even argue. you claim scientific fact when there is none. you can't even cite a reliable source besides the bible and a christian website. i can dig the original text you quoted because i feel that my beliefs are aligned with some nazerite religions like coptics and rastas and others. but there's no use arguing about it because you can't prove your point. when you start quoting the bible, all hope of a logical, reasonable discussion goes out the window. also, another favorite verse from the bible There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses -- Ezekiel 23:20
