call me a pussy if u want i dont care. id rather go to jail then

fight a war for oil, killing innocent civilians in the process. this war would make a little more sense if it were happening in afganistan, not in iraq where there is no link between al-queda and the iraqi government.

You say there is no link between Iraq and Al-Qaida? And you know this from what, personal experience? Oh yeah, you watch the news, the source of the "real" story.

I could ask you the same thing on why you believe there is a link

That's right, those news-watching saps. I stick to my horoscope and my crystal ball.

When did I ever say that I believed there was a link between Iraq and Al-Qaida?

Why do people here presume to know more than worldwide intelligence agencies?

Well, in your earlier post you were implicitly arguing against soulrebel's post that there was no link, so... by process of elimination I concluded you were of the opposite opinion, that there is a link.

I would proudly serve if I was drafted. I love my country and our great leaders. You people who are 100% against war need to stop and think, peace at all costs? I think not, I'm sorry but there are some things where war is necessary.

Yes Danip you are right. Our invasion of Afghanistan made sense, our involvement in Kosovo made sense, however our foriegn policy with Iraq does not. Many wars that we have involved ourselves in have made sense, but not the one in Iraq right now.

How has our involvement in Kosovo made sense? Just because it happened under Clinton, a democrat?

What kind of pathetic question is that? Did the invasion of Afghanistan come under Democratic leadership? I said I supported that military action didn't I?

Everything in life isn't about which political party you support Danip. In case you really wanted to know I'm a registered Independent as I realize the ass of both the Donkey and the Elephant stink and unfortunately due to our bipartisan system I'm forced to pick which one stinks less. If I was old enough at the time do you think I would have voted for Mondale?

Clearly demonstrating once again how far up your own ass youve shoved your head eh Niraj? Clinging tenaciously to a claim that was in fact discredited quite some time ago by "internqational intelligence agencies" including the CIA. Of course in keeping with the political obstinance and presumptive delusions that have characterised this admins policy choices since taking office, Bush and his good little misinformed supporters (such as yourself) continue to cling tenaciously to notions that have once again come to the fore to be dispelled by the facts.

    http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,304609,00.html

Youd do your credibility a world of good by putting away your devotion to ideology and start applying some objective scrutiny to the abuses of office for which this administration has exceded even the combined scandals of the Nixon and Reagan administrations.

Claims such the above only demonstrate how greatly you prefer to swallow every feeble piece of spin the administration and its INC puppets have been known to have dissemintated to news agencies (NewsMax being one of their most prolific channels for disinformation) rather than the repeated acknowledgements of intelligence analysts that no such link ever existed.

    http://conwebwatch.tripod.com/stories/2003/nmcheney.html

    http://www.apfn.net/messageboard/6-19-03/discussion.cgi.56.html

The operational principle guiding this administration is best summed up in this paragraph taken from the last link above:...

The intellectually honest will at least have the spine to now question the veracity of the many earlier released "video tapes" showing supposed claims from Osama (none actually which never, in fact, acknowledged direct Al Qaida responsibility for 9/11.) which were "magically" found lying about in this or that hut everytime the truth seemed to demonstrate ongoing contrivance and fabrications at the highest levels of the administration.

Remember that the Pentagon and DIA have archives full of Osama footage from 20 years ago which no current average America tv viewer would immediately recognise as out of date footage with entirely different messages than those associated with them by "administration officials".

Enough lies have indeed been exposed to suggest that those who tenaciously cling to their faith in this cabal, its claims and its agenda would be a used car salesman's (or shady property developer's) wet dream.

Before he "liberated" his country from the French, Ho Chi Minh and his Viet Minh had a secret alliance with the French. He and his Viet Minh supplied the French with information; in return the French supplied the Viet Minh with weapons and munitions. Ho Chi Minh used this alliance to seek out hundreds and hundreds of anti-communist leaders and kill them. Since it appeared to the general public that is was the French behind this brutal massecre, this mass killing actually drew support for the Viet Minh. Once Ho Chi Minh felt they were ready, they turned on the French. His tactics of killing all opposers (the same tactics of other infamous dictators such as Hitler and Stalin) later inspired his government to slaughter thousands of people and put thousands others in concentration camps.

It was a bloody civil war, and all sides were guilty of crimes of unspeakable horror. However, while there were some cases in which Allied forces knowingly committed their crimes, such as in the village of My Lai, most were friendly fire incidents - a misdropped napalm bomb, a wayward artillery shell, etc.

However, the Viet Cong were much, much worse. They used a wide variety of torture and killing methods on anyone who would not join them in their "crusade" to "liberate" their country. While there were some US soldiers guilty of immense cruelty, just about all of the Viet Cong were cold-hearted murderers that were intent on wiping out all "traitors" (or unarmed civilians who wanted no part in the war). In the US, dodging a draft and getting caught meant maybe a couple of years in prison. In Viet Nam, dodging a draft by the VC meant instant death (or perhaps maybe a day of torture or two first). In one year alone, more than 4000 were slaughtered by the VC. In Hue, 3000 people were buried alive. Of course, biased media never reports this - they only bring up the cases of US atrocities to fit the picture of "big bad US war machine" while quietly ignoring VC atrocities to fit the picture of "brave and honored freedom fighters".

Must be the stupidest question on Earth. The North Vietnamese communists invaded the South Vietnamese - the South Vietnamese were merely trying to defend their country. The US at the time had a policy to help any country under attack by communist forces, and so joined the fight to help the South Vietnamese.

Actually, that's another lie communist propaganda would like you to believe. The majority of people in Viet Nam spit on Ho Chi Minh's name, but many don't express their opinions publicly.

As far as I'm concerned, you are the bad guy for supporting tyrannic forces and their many massecres of the Vietnamese people. How are the South Vietnamese the "bad guys" when they were the ones who were invaded in the first place? That just defies all logic.

You act like the communist terrorists never killed innocents.

The mandate of the South Vietnamese government was always rather iffy, alot of Vietnamese despised it. Even Lyndon Johnson hated Diem privately. He knew they picked a bad horse.

    Suuuuuuure.......

You know, the majority of people in Vietnam also loved being dominated for centuries by foreign powers. And they also loved our killing millions of them. And they love ramming spikey objects up their noses. They just don't express their opinions publicly.

The South Vietnamese government was horribly corrupt and its head of state was an incompetent asshole. The Vietnamese were sick of being controlled by foreign powers. The war between the Vietcong and the South Vietnamese paralleled China's civil war in a way. In China, the US found itself backing another unpopular, incompetent government - the Nationalists under Jiang Kai-shek. The Communists at the time were by far more popular (naturally due to China's large agrarian population), and held more promise. Unfortunately they too became corrupt once they held the power. With Vietnam, the North Vietnamese were fighting for Vietnamese interests and not foreign ones. But Ho died in '69, and when Vietnam was unified at the war's end their government fell into a corrupt regime as well. Meet the new boss, same as the ol' boss, like always.

So what? It was bad, but no where near as bad as the North. And besides, it got better and better before it finally came to a sad end. If it had gone on as a democracy, it might have become a stable government.

It's funny how the people loved good old Uncle Ho so much that when he took control of North Viet Nam, tens of thousands fled to South Viet Nam, and when the communists took control of all of Viet Nam, there was a massive emmigration from Viet Nam. I guess thousands and thousands of Vietnamese people were so happy to have their country "re-unified" that they ran as fast as they could away from their country.

Exactly, practically all communist governments in history have gone corrupt. Meanwhile, their counterparts are successful democracies. Look at North Korea with South Korea. Compare China with Taiwan. compare East Germany with West Germany. In all of these examples, while the communist government oppresses the people greatly, the democracy is doing great. I can only picture what South Viet Nam, or a fully democratic Viet Nam would be like today...

If the trend with Diem was any indication, South Vietnam would have been pretty damn miserable.

Well North Korea's on a level of its own, anyone beats them hands down.

Taiwan... ehh, its government isn't too clean. It's better than China's, but still nothing to sing praise about.

Most Asian politics, if anything, are amusing in that they're much more, er, passionate... Korea and Taiwan's government in particular are renowned for parliamentary brawls. Here's one pic of a particularly irked Korean minister, it's priceless:

hmm if it came down to being drafted, although im a lil older than most and actually not fit for service( I tried to enlist in the navy but got arthritis so no go) I beleive i WOULD go, simply since im single with nothing important to leave behind, maybe I would keep someone ELSE from having to go, plus for the rest of my life whenvere some blowhard starts braggng on "these protesters dont know, the werent there, " I could say but I WAS< and im stil against war! My dad did the same in Vietnam, right after he started his senior year of high school he went to a funeral for a guy he knew that died in vietnam, a place he wasnt sure he could find on a map, he figured he would be drafted anyway, and he had always planeed on a Navy career, he went the next day and enlisted, he figured he might not go to Vietnam, but the nagain he might, at least he gave himself a chance to possibly avoid it, rather than run and hide he faced it on his own terms, and he stil beleives the war was wrong, but as he told me, it was the WAR that was wrong, which was Started by the LEADERS the PEOPLE put in power, not the young men that had to fight it, and whenever someone wants to bitch about anyone disagreing with the war he always reminds them HE opposes it, just as he opposed the war in Vietnam, and he backs it up by informing them he did 2 combat cruises off North Vietnam, and he never fails to shut them up right in their tracks
