Blind trust in a corporation is just as ignorant as blind trust in a political party. Maybe worse.

With the rise of information access the public is becoming more aware of what goes on in politics and business. The players are no longer able to hide behind their propaganda machines as effectively as they once did.

Disregarding politics for the moment, corporations find themselves and their operations coming under greater and greater scrutiny...it's not as easy to hide deforestation now that Goggle Earth has appeared. Pollution, accidents, mismanagement, fraud, and ineptitude are just a Twitter away from exposure. So corporations are finding it more expedient and cheaper to address moral and ethical issues before they happen. Much cheaper to find ways to prevent oil spills than to clean up after them and have to rebuild reputations and customer loyalty.

They are finding that ethics and morality pay, but only if the public demands it.

Late;y when I see anyone other than Jeff Foxworthy use the term it's meant as an insult and specifically directed at rural white people. So how is that not an ethnic slur? Or are we suggesting that white people don't actually have an ethnicity. I've heard they don't have any culture before and no talent as well. It's all the same thing, it's all in how it's used.

When I lived in Hawaii I was called a Haole every day of my life there. Some Hawaiians would insist it was not a racist term, but then on the street you see that is exactly how it is used. Just because a few people want to sugar-coat the redneck issue and try to point to the origin of the term doesn't mean that when I see it being used as a derision it's just because the bigoted asshole using it is stupid (true, but beyond the point).

I've watched the anti-white spewing escalate in the last 3 years to the point that I'm amazed people talk to whites at all in the US. We're blamed for everything from "stealing" land from the Indians (who would have lost it eventually to the Chinese) and even being called "Illegal Immigrants" over events from centuries ago. It's all so stupid. Why? Because saying anything negative about white people these days brings cheers. And the complete denial of racism directed at people for being born white.

It's one of the things that put distance between me and Bernie. He had no right to suggest that white people in the US have no idea what it means to be poor. That's just wrong. Most of the poor in the US are white people. Where's their "privilege"? Nobody care because they're just dumb "rednecks". Right?

Oh come on ppl. If I call someone a "dumbfuck" it is not meant as an insult to all hearing impaired ppl, just the dumbfuck I am addressing. (I know the origin of the word "dummy" which is why I seldom use it.)

If I use the term "Hysterical" it is not meant as a disparagement to everyone with a uterus. (I know the origin of the word "hysterical" which is why I seldom use it.)

I don't even use the word "asshole" because of my intimacy with that part of the body. I find "asswipe" much more grafically disgusting.

I usually call ppl like my half-brother in Mississippi an ignorant, backwater rube, but have been known to just call him an ignorant redneck. He calls himself a redneck but is too ignorant to know how ignorant he is.

He and his redneck friends on facebook call me such disparaging terms as a "Liberal" and "Leftie"
And, I purposely lace my comments with 25¢ words, knowing their 10¢ uneducated vocabulary can't handle it.

All's Fair in Love and Word War.

No GeorgeJet, not right. You're mixing things up. Not every form of discrimination is racism. Not every poor white american is a redneck.
'We're blamed for everything'. By who/how many?

Border jumpers are yesterdays problem. Our economy is not robust enough to attract these "guest workers".

During the housing boom, up until 2007, yes we had illegals arriving in the US.

Similar to the number of people leaving. Also, nearly half our illegals arrived legally, with a passport or visa, and simply didn't leave when their time was up. So, the Trump wall wouldn't accomplish a lot. Not worth the high cost.

I wonder how this discussion went down in India. They built a wall on their border with Pakistan that can be seen from orbit. The problem they had was low-tech and a low-tech solution solved most of it. But I personally agree that the US would not need a wall if we just enforced the laws that are on the books and sought out the companies who are taking advantage of non-American workers by playing them against their fears.

I see your point. I just think it's lame to look for insulting things to call people. I can't get over how many folks seem to get out of bed wondering how many people they will intentionally anger. It's so pointless. It's getting hard to keep up with the compression of our language because of so many hurt feelings. I remember when the word Thug had no racial connotations at all. My uncle was a thug, spent a lot of time in jail, quick to a fight, stole people's shit and that was before he started boozing.

Living in the sticks of Atlanta I see people using redneck as a kind of pitiful term of endearment. Especially since most of the people using it can't change their own oil. But in the press and on twitter I see it clearly being used as an ethnic slur. At some point we have to admit that it's wrong to do that to anyone. Even the nasty old dying out white people. Some of us aren't bedsheet wearing slaveowner spawn. We didn't have the KKK in San Rafael. I haven't seen signs of them around Atlanta either and I fully expected to.

Also, it seems that all races, ethnicities and cultures create assholes. It's a good word for describing them!

A pipe dream to be sure. But look at the weird reactions it has caused. Even dragging Fox back from obscurity, though I wonder why he's talking and Nieto isn't!

It's all part of the show.

I've spent enough time dealing with rednecks and their shit that I've earned the right to call them whatever the fuck I want to call them. I've paid my dues. To me, the term is very specific.

Donald Trump wouldn't allow a true redneck inside his house. He just wants their votes.

Ha! Good point! Imagine Trump letting some beer belly Bubba* drip corn dogs, Coors, and nachos all over his furniture!

*BTW I'm using Bubba as a term of endearment.

Here's the Quote of the Day from Donald Trump:
That explains everything you need to know about how utterly confused he is!
He thinks RL is like an online forum where you can just say anything that comes to your head.
That would be fine if it was just an online forum where he was spouting his hatefilled lies (he's just pandering to the lowest of the low).
Never thought America politics could descend lower than that BUSHIT we had to contend with for eight years.

    And now this...
