However, Trump himself has demonstrated that he doesn't understand the meaning of a blind trust----he thinks that if he lets his kids run his business, this is the equivalent of a blind trust. It came out of his own mouth that his kids are going to run his businesses as he was saying that it would be a blind trust.

Actually the 16th amendment was adopted on Feb 3, 1913. Supporters believed that the income tax would be a better source of government revenue than tariffs, which had been the primary source of government funds.

Dude, I know I paid more in Taxes than Trumpy. I heard on NPR that the last time he wrote a check to the IRS was in 1977. That means he had other "Tax Loses" prior to 1995 when he dropped the big one on us. I used to use the schedule C with my 1040 when I worked for my self. I could never figure out how to do what he did. He must have a super slick accountant.

One of the worst things I ever did was write a $40K check to the IRS for 1 year of income taxes. That's enough to feed quite a few families, for a year. One thing I don't do though is attempt to dodge taxes in any way. But even as honest as Jane, my wife and I are, the IRS STILL puts us through wall to wall crap about taxes. I'm still arguing with them about 2011 and 2014, two years when I had foreign nationals on my payroll (one a Syrian refuge).

On the issue of Trump's taxes, an article in Forbes shines a different kind of light on this. Basically, the press and media know fuckall about how the tax codes in the US even work.

Do you think we should go back to a hunter-gather society? If not, taxes are our contribution to the government that provides for our roads & bridges, national defense, firefighters, etc.Make America Great Again! Cut off its revenue? What would ISIS do then. Trump is on record many times shaming people who don't pay their taxes, He just doesn't want to pay his!

No one has said that what he did is not legal, what we are pointing out is that he has structured his businesses so that he can avoid paying income tax...even though he has a tremendous income. He doesn't have to structure his businesses that way, he could still run his businesses at a profit and end up paying something in income tax.

Instead he rants and raves about taxes and loop holes, admonishes those who don't pay any taxes, declares he will end the loopholes he has been using for years, sends Rudy Giuliani out to tell us he's a genius for stiffing all the serfs and then he has the guts to say, "a lot of the people that are poor take advantage of loopholes and pay no taxes. Those are loopholes also."
The poor do it too! So it's alright for Trump! Neglecting the fact that the poor people don't pay taxes....because they don't have any money!!!! I mean they can't even buy their own $100 million 757!!!

This matter reminds me of COVERUP the film by the empowerment project. There is a guy on the street who get interviewed by the movie maker. The guy says, "They make laws that are for us, not for them; and, they never seem to apply these laws to themselves."

He's a classic symptom of the upper class, so I'm not shocked he'd try to avoid taxes any more than the rest of US corporations and CEOs. I've come to expect it. I also expect charities and foundations to squander the bulk of their intake on "administrative" costs. Sure, in both cases it's not "ALL" of them. There are some exceptions. I just don't see this as a partisan issue.

I'm inclined to think that the primary reason Trump threw his hat in the ring is because he knows that his way of making a living is not going to be the same unless he does. From that perspective I see his whole campaign as sheer desperation. While it was fun watching him make fools of the GOP, it's obvious he saved the real fight for last. All I see now is a contest to see who can out-sleaze the other.

My own father took a $1M hit back in the late 80s that took almost a decade to recover from. I had to put one of my siblings through college. So I can't imagine how one could possibly turn a nearly $1B hit around. It's worthy of study/investigation. It's something real as opposed to all this KKK/Nazi nonsense being tossed about.

He learned from all the best and was born with a silver spoon in his mouth....That is all fine and dandy...It is not like he is a self made man or anything coming from nothing or even knowing what it is really like on the other side of the fence...again all fine and dandy...

I just don't have much respect or like for him and never will no matter what anyone says to try and convince me otherwise.

Interesting idea, but impossible with today's population. How would we put the brakes on society at large when so much infrastructure is needed just to supply food. I'm getting South American strawberries for a reason. The only way to feed this planet is with a LOT of international shipping. Otherwise we'd face not only seasonal scarcity, but potential famine during bad harvests.

If only we could slow the hell down. Unfortunately humanity is literally fucking our way to ruin. The only people reducing their population are the very people we need more of. And we enable unchecked reproduction through decades of foreign aid. Which means we have taken ownership of the problem, but have no solution in sight.

Around Atlanta and I guess most southern states the deer hunting season is very popular. Of course there are many who deride it for various reasons. And I have to admit some of these hunters seem to be too pleased with the killing part as opposed to the harvesting dinner for 3 months part. Or so it seems to me as they drive around showing off the carcass in their truck or strapped across the hood of their beater.

BUT, it has to be done. Deer have few predators around here, even with a substantial coyote population. If allowed to populate unchecked they become an environmental nightmare as they deplete their food sources and cause traffic accidents looking for more. I never saw so many deer in California. I saw one ram a truck that had slowed down to avoid hitting another in front of me, so they're not exactly cuddly creatures either.

A few things could force this onto us. A massive economic crash that shuts down the infrastructure for an extended period of time would wipe out a quarter of the population in a month or so, maybe less. Couple this with a global war and multiple EMP strikes and we'll all be hunter/gatherers in less than a year. Those of us who remain anyway. Of course that isn't the same as reversing our course willingly. That would take a great deal of planning and lots of questions we don't want to answer about who gets to live.

I wonder how people like the Clintons and Trump would weather the utter collapse of it all? The Bush clan has a compound in South America. Others have secure family compounds inside the US. It seems almost normal for the ultra-wealthy to live as secluded from the rest of us as possible. Much like Washington.

Maybe we adopt some of Deathrace 2000 and the Flesh Fairs of AI. But wouldn't a rodeo where a guy has to ride a polar bear be epic. Trying to not only stay on for maybe 3 seconds, but to escape the arena alive!!! I wonder who they could get to put a saddle on the bear first? It will take a different kind of chute as well.

Also, instead of hearing the news blather on about a non-existent "Gangland" after a shooting, we build a REAL Gangland theme park!!!! Why wait for the next riot when Gangland is only a short bus ride from Vegas, Atlantic City, Detroit or DC.

We should legalize all the drugs of course. We need heroin and crack in vending machines (Canada sells crack pipes this way) and maybe a massive hedge maze that has regular water fountains tainted with LSD so they never find their way out. A "Close Encounter Zoo" could be pretty cool, kind of the opposite of a petting zoo with predators and angry primates.

Another cool way to go would be to go up in one of those zero gravity airplanes, only never pull out of the drop! [IMG]

Mike Pence's galling amneisia.....NY Times article. he reminded me of a thin mouthed snake in the grass...
I would have told kaine to cool it a little...stop interrupting so much, as he was so worked up...but he was right on point every step of the way.

it is a shame there are not two different planets...You repubs can have your person...and they don't have to be forced on us in another world.

I wonder how much tax Warren Buffet pays?

Yes, mouth the right political pieties and platitudes and you are a progressive hero, no matter how much tax you dodge.

Also he advocates for more and higher taxes, for everyone else.

“Rush Limbaugh on decaf.” ~ Mike Pence about himself.

    Good article.
According to most reviews I've seen Kaine lost the debate, but those people were just focused on Kaine's interruptions and Pence's refusal to address the facts Kaine kept throwing out. They saw his refusal to support or explain Trump as a victory...I see it as weaseling.

Kaine kept quoting Trump accurately and Pence took that as an insult and refused to address any of Trump's remarks. Funny, but if you are insulted by someone quoting what your running mate says.....why would you be his running mate?
