A testament to just how wildly people's reactions to psychedelics differ.

Although I do agree, 15's a bit young, I think just blatantly telling him "You're too young" has the potential to do a lot more harm than good. I know that when I was 15, if I had wanted to take them, then came somewhere looking for advise, and all that was given to me was "You're too young" I would probably have done what most 15 year olds would do: Try to prove you wrong.

Telling someone to downright just NOT do it is a sure fire way for some defiance to kick in.

    Man, ain't that the truth.

Even after 30-some years of occasional psychedelic use, I am still sometimes surprised at how differently people can be affected.

A while back I trip-assisted someone who got sick, overheated, and nearly comatose and almost non-responsive (unable to even stand up) for a good 5 hours on only three hits of some Jesus blotter. It was from a sheet known for sure (well, as sure as one can be) to be LSD and not an RC, clean, tasteless, and without any oddities at all. He and others I know had been munching off that very same sheet once every few weeks for 6 months or so. He wasn't a first timer either, and usually does 1 or 2 hits without even being obviously high. I've -never- had a trip even remotely as strong in my life.

To see him get so totally spun on just 3 doses has left me with a lot more caution and respect for the stuff. I thought I knew miss lucy better than that. At least he remembers it as all good, though it sure wasn't for me.

My first time I tripped was in June of 1978, a few days before I turned 17, and I only took 1/3 of a hit of "red dragon" blotter. Only after it wore off much later did I realize that it had even had an effect. I still remember that as the day when life all added up, made sense, I felt my place in the world, I felt the importance of ethics and love and kindness... but had NONE of the classic visual effects. Just "deep thoughts" while hiking around in nature.

Be careful out there. I suggest waiting, but if you must launch forward, I think a small dose is best. Every first timer I've known that's done a half hit their first time has felt that it was more than strong enough. Drugs are bad, mostly, and even psychedelics can be good only with careful use. Just my opinion.

(Anyone else know of anyone tripping so hard on only three hits of average strength blotter? I was thinking of starting a thread on this...)

I think it's safe to say that half a hit of average blotter acid in the 70's would have been a good deal more potent than an average half hit today. This is all wildly variable of course, like everything with these drugs, but I think that less than one hit of today's average acid would be too little to get any real effects. Shit, I'm on three hits of windowpane right now, 6 hours in, and I've been having a mild but fun trip. I couldn't imagine anyone being overwhelmed at this level, but then again we see how differently everyone reacts. There's so much variability in these speculations that they're nearly meaningless.

I've never even taken a single hit of LSD, let alone fractional hits. 150 ugs is sort of my intended lowering ceiling and eventhough I've had single hits reported to be that amount I usually remain skeptical. I'm of the viewpoint that as long as you have prepared yourself for the experience that it's better to be a bit overwhelmed rather than a bit underwhelmed with LSD and psychedelics. Even with that mindset, I've found a couple hits to be underwhelming sometimes.

I don't feel there is any sort of bravado in that approach I've taken either, I grew up listening to the music of the 1960's and when I got into psychedelics, I was fascinated with the drug culture of the time and sought to find the experiences that were creating these radically altered change in perceptions, thoughts, ideas, colors, sounds, sensations of the time. I found doses like 250-300 ugs often reported at the time, which are quite a bit higher than the average reported hits of today's acid.

The op is young though, I sort of don't really have an opinion on when should be an appropriate age, as has been mentioned the affects can be so variable on different individuals. But waiting to get a trip sitter may be better for their circumstances.
