No not a trick question. A question that requires knowledge of plant growth and cultivation.

Only partially, which isn't going to do your babies any good when you are gone for 8-9 days

i guess ill get someone to come water them.. well i dont leave for about 9days so i hope they will get a little bigger by then, i fear that someone who comes to water them will be careless and just dump some water on them which will most likely kill them :-( but so will lack of water so its a chance i HAVE to take, do you have any advice?

Another thing you can try will call for transplanting your starts into containers using water saver potting mix.
What makes it water saver is their are polymers mixed into the soil. Polymers start out dry with the size of coarse sand but increase in size with the looks of a clear medium sized "gummy bear".
As the soil drys out the water is drawn from the polymers. We use several hundred pounds here every year potting plants and hanging baskets.
While your away, keep your starts in a hole less flat and have your friend water from the bottom. This way the roots will draw the water and the cotyledon wont be injured.
    Happy vacation....Dennis

would it be better to put them beside a window instead of outside? so less sunlight and less heat, or put it outside in the shade /more sunlight/more heat?

I would leave them indoors, in a window with good morning sun.
Don't know your climate, but a good wind could put a hurt on your babies.
As for the fertilizer we use is Arctic Grow 8-32-16 is a good all around additive and is water soluable. Never have a burning problem. Plants seem to do well in our short growing season here. Good luck....Dennis

well i dont think the transplant went so well, one of the leaves of my biggest sprout is wilted and the plant itself kind of looks droopy, is there anything i can do to help the transition?

[IMG]Keep it damp and plenty of light, a little more lite fertilizer wouldn't hurt either.
Maybe we can talk about sterile soil for starting seeds at a later date.
    ...................Dennis...............
All the above plants , on the tables where started from seed in our basement over the winter and early spring.
