Not at all, that's not my place, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of organized religion. To clarify, my conduct is better, yet ironically my standard of conduct is, if anything, lower, which is why it's easier for me to practice what I preach. Once you cross the line in terms of what you consider immoral, it's easier to push it that much further while using religion to justify it.
If the bible is the word of god how come there is nothing in it about the dinosaurs. Did he forget that chapter? I think religion was created to manipulate and control people and seems to be working to that effect. There's an old saying: "religion is what keeps the commoners from killing the king" Some people don't need the threat of eternal damnation to treat people kindly and do the right thing. It's all about Karma and keeping your soul pure. Billy Graham says animals don't have souls so they won't go to heaven. But people are the only species who regularly kill each other for reasons other than self defense, food or to protect their young. On a lighter note heres a joke. A guy dies and ends up at a set of pearly gates with his dog. There is a sign that says "No Dogs Allowed". So he continues on and comes to another set of gates and asks St. Peter " I just past a set of gates, what were they?" St. Peter says "those were the ones we use to weed out the people that would leave their best friend behind." Peace, Love and invite a stray dog to dinner this holiday season.iggy:
I don't think that was the purpose of religion, so much as to provide spiritual guidance, but that's certainly what it's been exploited for, like any other tool used by those who lust for power. The irony is that the most spiritually connected people have no need for power over others, their power comes from within.
I don't understand how god could be real, with so little proof (with new scientific discoverys that prove things like evolution) and with so many conflicting religions it's just so hard to convince me that there is an all powerful being that just watches over us. I mean god is supposed to be pure good right? Well then why is he letting children die, be raped, sent to war let us destroy our planet and let us kill his son? I know "he gave us free-will" (i read the bible too) but you can't convince me that god exsists. About the bible how the hell do we know it's true? There is no word in hebrew for homosexual last time I checked so how was it translated into the bible. Before these stories could even be printed they happened, plus when they were made up they could have been emblished and don't forget people back when the bible was written were stupid enough to think the world was a cube...
You took my response right out my fingers brother. Star Wars couldn't have rehearsed the ancient principle any better. We are the Force! :lurk5:
You all claim to know, but the truth is, nobody does. Think about it, all of you can't be right. These are all opinions.
If we can think, we can assume that intelligence exists. We can look at systems in nature, and of our own simulation, and see that intelligence and complexity develops out of chaos. We can look to the sky and see, ever so subtly that our cosmos has complexity and developed from chaos. If we assume we have intelligence, and we are a part of nature (indeed the universe) can i not assume that the universe shares this intelligence?
I think that the more pertinent question is which god? There is a multitude of gods worships by people all over the world and a multitude of different interpretations of said gods by their subdivisional religious sects. If a god did exist I think that it would make itself known so as to dispel the confusion and the squabbling and in some cases violence and persecution of others based on their religious beliefs. Just A god doesn't really cut it. That's why all of those silly arguments for the existence of a supreme being borne of foundational bias and desperation shouldn't even be given creedence to begin with. Unless of course one enjoys slaughtering poor attempts at logic. I certainly do.
