Whether you're free or not is always your choice: even if someone is holding a gun to your head saying "don't" you're a still free to do.

Freedom never goes away it's just that it's always been subject to radical price fluctuations.

Malai, Cpt Obvious and, didymus. You guys are very wise. Your words have inadvertently drawn a distinction in my mind. When I said free I was speaking from the perspective of society as a whole, which is not free. But I understand now, freedom is in fact in ones own mind. Hence, I shouldn't be concerned about society as a whole. furthermore, maybe that's why freedom has two definitions.

    free·dom/ˈfrēdəm/

    Noun:
    • The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
    • Absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic government.
#1 is freedom of one's mind.

#2 is freedom of one's body.

Actually, Secret Service Agents will probably be on call and sent to events so it can be said that protesting was done in the presence of the secret service.

I think we're free to choose between Costco and Wal-mart.

Yes, freedom can be a state of mind, however when the masses are brainwashed into believing they can only choose between black and white, then they become prisoners of their society.

And one of the cures for such brainwashing is TRAVEL and living in other societies.

It's the only way to become objective about the loss of freedom in your own society.

Any social structure that makes you believe you have only TWO choices for anything and that the world is divided up into right and wrong, good and evil, is robbing you of your freedom to THINK of alternatives. It prevents society and individuals from evolving.

That is one of the greatest mind fucks ever!

Unfortunately in order to travel and experience other cultures one needs money. Economics ultimately enslaves us more than government.

I agree. When one starts asking, "In what ways is this a 'free country?' " is when one realizes, it isn't!
