1) Women and men are NOT equal, nor should they be treated as such. However, they are both human and should be treated with equal respect by each other. 2) Women and men alike are both being targeted and pitted against one another. People are products of their societal conditioning.
I believe in equality in differentiation.Men and women are different to each other, but both also have traits of each and the other.Equal rights for gay whales is my philosophy.
To answer Lorna's question,I would say that women have equal rights on paper, and lip service is paid to equal rights, but that we basically live in patriarchy. Some people think this is the right way and that it's just the way of the world, but for me patriarchy is the prime cause of war and injustice in the world.I just think that in general women are better people than men, maybe because they are child-bearers and mothers, and as such should have greater influence in the world,if they want it.I am not saying women are perfect, just that this male dominated world is turning into a bit of a mess,in my opinion.
The idea that men are in one big conspiracy against women is just ridiculous. Some women have a shit life, due to male centred groupings. Some men have a shit life .. due to women. The whole thing various across different countries, cultures and groups. But I've seen some women have a terrific life in some things. WAY better than their male equivalents. Women live longer, don't tend to die in wars, aren't expected to work massively long hours. THey can get jobs above their ability level due to their appearance. They can marry into money, and divorce off with a generous settlement etc etc. They can pack up work and have generous maternity benefits and child support payments etc Thats all in their favour. Men have NOTHING like that. Ofcourse in Muslim countries etc, they might have a crap life. But there's many different types of discrimination, right AND wrongful. I've come across a fair number of women who are the most discriminatory people you could imagine. Their schooling cost £30k pa, their father gets them an easy and well paid job for life, and they aren't even any good at it. Guess what, they're the ones that crow on loudest about "discrimination against women". I can't believe the neck of them.. In cases like that, its just a power grouping just looking to take whatever it can, by fair means or foul.
:-/ Tell you what wobs, why don't I deal with just the girls? The hot ones. As you know, they can be a little hard to deal with ; ) TBH, call me paranoid but this peace and love freaks me out a bit. Makes me think of David Koresh, Jimmy Savile and the like
I almost came out with a very ungentlemanly, Southerner style response. ie "probably the dole office". But I decided not too. : D Anyway, was it Bradford you are from?
Halifax? You aren't that Howard from the television are you? The West, can't say exactly. Otherwise I'd have to... Well you know.. Delete all my posts.
Women make up more than half the population. What Larry Summers said (and what got him fired) was that 1. There are more men than women who are willing to put in an 80 hour work week 2. There is substantial evidence that there are profound differences between men and women. In particular, there is a higher level of standard deviation and variability in males than females in performance on tests of cognitive ability (especially related to math and science). This means that the highest (and lowest) performers on these tests are men. Men compose the overwhelming majority of elite level performers at many tests relevant to the highest positions and highest paying jobs (quoting from Summers) Historically women have been under represented at elite level positions (while there are much fewer women with elite level abilities in comparison to men, there are still quite a few). Now women, while still holding a minority of elite level positions, are over represented relative to their abilities. Summers lost his job not because what he said wasn't true, but because feminists unleashed a massive snarling **** storm on him. He made statements supported by evidence, but he reached a conclusion that feminists would not tolerate. Feminist dogma is that men and women are exactly equal, except that women are also superior (e.g., "if women ruled the world, there would be no war!"). This not supported by evidence. It is supported by the desire for this to be so. It is supported by repeating it often enough that the public (and they themselves) embrace it as an inviolable truth. It is supported by attacking anyone who says otherwise, and by minimizing awareness of facts that contradict it. It is certainly possible for someone to get an elite level position for reasons other than their abilities. I'm sure that there are plenty of men that get cushy jobs because of connections and weaseling their way into them (just as there are women who do the same). Gender differences at elite levels can be explained by differences in ability, however.
Hmm, yeah... :-/ I thought he symbolised "financial prudence" for the ad. You know, why waste that money on hot water, when you're gonna get covered in soot again during your next shift, "down pit". Makes sense doesn't it? ..sort of.
Look, far be it from me to defend Islam. I basically think we could bomb them, and it would be progress. But this crowing about discrimination against women in Muslim countries is just funny to me, since Islamic countries are severely weak on human rights in general. Women or no women. It's very hard to think of a jihadist boy slated to strap himself with an explosives belt on a suicide mission as some privileged class. As far as the feminist stuff, way too tedious for me to bother. Whoever feels like it can go on whining, as far as I'm concerned. I just came here to bite around the edges.
