*shrug* It's not like you're stuck with them if you don't like them. Nothing ventured nothing gained. And if you get them, like them and then you find as they get longer that they're too heavy you can always trim them. Hair is very versatile.

Yes. Or so I've heard, it doesn't affect me, because I plan to never cut my hair again, or if I do, just get a sharp knife and chop it offf at the length needed...

Other than the wash part. That may lock them in more. Get rid of your silly "knots=dirty" mentality.

Tons of conditioner. Patience and friends can be helpful as well.

    Lol.

At some point you've got to realize that it WILL look worse before it looks better, and the best you can do is go for worse right now. Length before the process will not help and can hurt. And if I remember right from when I saw your picture yesterday, your hair won't grow much more at all, and even if it could, long hair will NOT DREAD AS EASILY, from anything I've seen and from my own longer neglect locks taking the longest to lock... and then ending up the same length.

And if you can't deal with some loss of control of your looks for a time, and unsightly hair, then locks are not the hair for you.

And the sooner you do it, the sooner you'll be showing off an awesome set of mature locks ;)

the longer they are the longer it will take them to lock. Plus when you finally get around to doing them (considering the method) its going to take forever! The previous time I had dreads my hair was just past my breast and it took 2 days to finish the backcombing.

Just make sure that your ready for your hair to not smell like herbal essence anymore, and your head is going to itch. I wanted them because I love the way they look. There is something so natural about it. But they dont look like the way I love untill someone has had them for well over a year.

plus people are going to ask questions a lot (unless dreads are common where you live). Most people will see the dreads before they see you. which means stereotyping like a mother fucker!

people love it to though.....someone once came up to me and said "my friend dared me to come take a picture with you holding you hair".....haha and people will touch it without asking....like dreads means I dont have personal boundries. lol

    False.

The only truth in your comment is your hair will itch.

My first set never locked up. My second set locked up and my hair was way longer than what I started with on my first set.

You can still use herbal essences. I've used it numerous times on my relatively new neglect dreads and they are locking up fine.

You can back comb a whole head of hair in around 1-2 hours unless you're using wax, rubber bands etc etc then yeah it will take 2 days.

    Bottom line...
Your hair will do what it wants to do. mine didn't itch, but yours might. My hair grows super slow. yours might not. I didn't make a big deal about my hair and just let it flow. That might not be feasible for you. Whatever. You'll end up with locks one way or another if you really want them.

I hope it all works out for ya.
