I consider hippies peace loving and caring people...so I'd like to think I have those traits. I've been called a hippie often...probably because I am a liberal vegan...haha. I try not to label myself though.

I consider myself a "me"- although I do occasionally embody a "myself" and once in a while an "I". Those around me seem to think of me as a "you".

I dislike labels because they can be quite sticky and difficult to peel off.

I dislike labels also, however if I were to brand myself with something... it would probably be Hippy, to an extent, at least,

I can wipe my wire-rimmed "granny" glasses with my 100% natural hemp tye-dye T-shirt---I'm a hippie.

I love the things the hippie movement stands for; peace, love, acceptance, creativity free thought, unity, etc. and sure I wear tye-dye and smoke things. But, doesn't classifying ourselves and everyone else into groups just create more rifts between us and defeat what the movement stands for? I love the hippie movement, but me, I'm just another human.

a hippie is "someone who rejects the established culture; advocates extreme liberalism in politics and lifestyle." so being a hippie can mean many many different things.

typically today though people think of a certain look, and a laidback lifestyle involving lots of tie dye and lots of drugs. i don't really think theres any way to avoid people categorizing each other into groups like this.

the only person who've I've actually met who claimed himself to be a "hippie" had the "look", smoked a lot of weed, did a decent amount of acid, liked to sit around and talk about politics and free love.... blah blah blah... but everything he actually stood for was as far from hippie as i could imagine. He was not kind to anyone, walked all over anybody who tried to help him out, stole from his friends, beat the shit out of people at times, hated everyone who was different than him, he never appreciated anybody, or anything. he was also an alchoholic and is now in jail for vandalizing and arson for burning his parents house down. yet he proclaimed himself as a "hippie" because he had long hair, wore sandals, and smoked weed.

Yeah, good but obvious point, lucyloo.

Someone "who rejects the established culture; advocates extreme liberalism in politics and lifestyle" doesn't necessarily considers him/herselves to be a hippie though.

well like my story starts off like that a bit too, ..
14, on the streets, squatting by 16ish maybe (1 squat i opened is still open today 20 years or so later..23ish? no clue
but altho i was young on the street livin with punks doin the punk thing and all i think i was more hippieish then anything.. i mean my only transportation was a unicycle.. & was all into crystals and medxitation and healing and i guess as i matured alil & started travelin the hippieshness became lil more me
i dunno ..it took too much effort to be the angry punk kid & was just easier to be a happy ol hippy..lol
    i dunno
id still always say i concider myself myself.. but as far as something to be concidered, i feel a hippy isnt a bad thing at all...ofcourse what that means is still widely misunderstood and personal

oh also shoulda mentioned that since i was probly 4-5 yrs old, it took both my parents to sit on me to cut my hair...does that make me a born hippy? lol my parents are fairly fsar from hippy, but i was born the winter b4 the summer of love if that means anything..next week actualy..or maybe this week...

oh but like i was sayin...when i was young and sheltered from countercultures & found myself on the streets in the 80's..lol crazy crazy times... damn lucky to have survived really.....but round when i was like 19 went to my 1st gatherin with my gf at the times family.. and was really kinda eye opening lifechganging experience to witness sooo many so called "dirty hippies" pulling togerther to do something amazing like that
or for that matter, the great peace march which i did the last ..like 250 or so miles of on my unicycle while fasting for 10 days..
but yea i suppose ya could say i'm lil hippyish...if wantin to live in a schoolbus & tipi is hippish then yea thats me .. i enjoy being me...& damn if i dont have a life of crazy amazing beautiful and even magical experiences..if i'm a hippy then a hippy is a wonderful thing to be, because i sure enjoy being me
