.I'm an avid upland game bird hunter-no large mammals for me.

But, I see no reason for Handguns, or military assault rifles, or any fully automatic weapons. I would support a ban on these.

Besides, if I REALLY wanted to hit something, like a person at relatively close range; I'd use a sawed-off shotgun with 00 buck shot.

No, and if Dawn of the Dead were to happen, I suppose I'll have to fortify my dorm room...and pray they don't get in.

Handguns, personal protection. I would NEVER listen to a ban on handguns.

What a stereotype? No, I don't think so. That's an opinion. I'm not painting a picture or applying certain attributes to all gun owners. People who carry firearms with no proffession in the field, and are proud of that fact ARE sad in my opinion. There's no real need for it - hiding behind a piece and claiming it's for protection. Yeah, use it and they'll be the one who needs protecting when they get locked up for manslaughter.
Fair enough if they're participating in target shooting or practicing on an artillery range, but when a gun's sat in a cupboard doing nothing but feeding an ego and building fake confidence, I'd say I'm perfectly within order to state that it's sad.
    VERY sad.

You seriously make no sense. When I get a gun it will be to protect myself from people that break into my home or try to kill me, or to have fun in the desert. Its only feeding an ego if you got it to be cool.

You're not exactly making a great deal of sense yourself. When you get a gun it will be to protect yourself from people that break into your home or try to kill you? You sound deluded mate.
You're convinced someone's gonna break in and kill you and you plan on shooting them? Come off it. Do you have people 'after you' or something? Sounds like a hint of paranoia to me. Even if shit did hit the fan and it actually happened - the only way that gun's gonna protect you is if you pull the trigger and put bullet through flesh.. and if you're not skilled with a gun then it's fair to say you've got a fair chance of missing your target or going the extra mile and killing the intruder altogether. I mean, sure you can threaten them but how far will you go and how much will they take before they call your bluff? Hindsight. Protection, my arse. It's just a scare tactic.

Maybe I am somewhat paranoid but it can come in handy to be on gaurd.
And all you do with a gun is line up everything and pull the trigger... Maybe I'm just naturally skilled with a gun but it is really not hard at all to accurately fire a gun.

So you have marks. experience then? I don't doubt you havent, just saying it's easier to say something than do it.. especially during the split second decisions that'd need making in the heat of the moment.
Dude if you need a gun just to feel safe, I pity you. That's no way to live.

I'm not saying I need one, although it does make me feel more comfortable. I ALWAYS carry a knife on me cuz I have this weird thing about the fact that there are three pedophiles within 300 yards of my house. I just don't feel safe, even though they say they wouldn't mess with a 17 year old I still want to be prepared.

    You're missing my point.
Fair enough, you have these weapons. You have the potential to cause damage.
But when face with imminent threat, would you be prepared to use a safeguard?
Because to me it sounds like hindsight.

Well, there is no way to know if I would be prepared to kill a threat because I have never killed anyone... The only thing I can go off of is what I've thought to myself laying in bed, that if somebody broke in I would attempt to do my best to stop him. We'll never know unless I actually killed someone.

Everything is a weapon. A rock. The floor, a stick, your hands, your foot. And the best bit about that, is that they do not see it coming.

And they're less likely to be turned on you or accidently go off because you twitched with excitement.

I do own a rusty sammurai sword tho, just in case, you know.

    Always trust in rust.
Especially when a razor sharp rusted edge of a sammurai sword drives it's way into the flesh of an attacker.

I don't think that's a very healthy thing to be thinking when you're lying in bed. The chances are quite slim that someone will break in while you're asleep. You're more likely to come to harm in countless other ways. It's telling that people dwell so much on this one particular fear. Perhaps the fear is part of the wider problem the usa has with gun proliferation:coolgleamA:

blaming guns for violence is like blaming cars for automobile accidents. someone had to get behind the wheel and drive the damned thing. but at the same time, not everyopne on earth are bad drivers either. the same thing applies to gun owners as well. why should a majority of responsible firearm owners be punished because a few nutjobs and unstable people happen to find convience to commit their actions by use of a firearm?
