I agree 100 %. I use to work as a fruitpicker, mostly summertime and during these winter months i can live with very little money. I never buy new clothes, only second hand, i make my food by myself, in the house we have big fireplace, etc. I couldnt even work all the time, need my freedom too.
I guess (not counting the army)I've always worked. The neat thing, I showed everyone that when I was in business that a long haired, beared hippy dude could start, own and run a business. They were alway expecting some clean cut preppy dude. Nope, not hardly, even now, after having sold and semi-retired from the old business, I'm working as a machinist in a fairly large business. Everyone looks like the professional type and here I am, pony tail just above my ass...I enjoy the look on their faces when they find out I probably forget more about running a business while taking a dump than they'll ever know anyway. I love it...makes going to work bearable!
Yeah man, that's great! It's a tough job bein' a roll model like that, but somebody's gotta do it. If you're good at what you do, who cares how you live or what you look like, right? Instead of raises each year, I want less stress, more freedom, and more time off. Besides, I usually get the most done OUTSIDE work, 'cause that's where I come up with the ideas, in the woods.
i gave two weeks notice one week ago at my job of a year and a half. i have this pattern i just noticed too. i can never work at a place longer than a year and a half. what can i say? i like meeting new people. now im going to work at tthis mexican awesome resturant as a host, server and to go person. its going to be sweet! everyone there is real chill to! SCORE one for Veronica!
I am 20 and haven't had a job since I was 18. I worked at cub foods for a couple years. I was on the "clean team" ;they called it that to make it sound important or something but in reality, all I did was push carts and clean shit off the toilet seats. I have always dreamed of owning a business and I wanted to start young. I went through the processes and got a DBA , Business license, and reseller permit. I started buying things in bulk (mainly computer parts) and selling them on ebay. That went pretty well but i got sick of all the fees that ebay would rack up. Even so that paid better than Cub foods even came close to. Now I am starting an online pipe shop. I have worked my ass off on this website and hope it takes off so that I can rely on this for income. I don't look at it as a job though. I look at it as my passion and what I love to do. I hate school and was miserable in it . Everyone says go to college. I rather do what I love and get paid less than do what I hate and get paid more. yadda yada sorry for the long post. Check out the pipe shop.... just finished.. http://www.pipemagic.com
kinda wierd work that I do though... I paint, sheetrock, varnish and other things....when there is work and get paid really good for it. other then that I hangout and surf pura vida
I now have a voluntary job being careers library monitor at school. i didn't ask for it and I won't get paid, apparently it's cos I'm 'sensible'!! Looks quite funny, this hippie tidying all these career books and giving careers advice. Personally i want to bum around in conservation and then meet someone who wants to help me set up a commune/homestead then live off the land.
I go to school but don't have a job. I graduate this spring then I will go to apprentice on a 1,200 acre organic farm. First job since I got fired on October, 31 2005 after taking an impromptu trip to Vegas for Vegoose and left my boss hanging.
best of luck to you with your apprenticeship. i did one on a 40 acre organic/solar homestead in northern vermont. beautiful....it's the toughest job you'll ever love (for real) shanti!
I'm not shitting ya on this one....the job that I had before I decided to start my own legit business designing and making clothing was I trained astronauts at NASA, I was one of the SCUBA divers at the NBL training and helping them perfect their spacewalks (EVA's). The job itself was very cool but working for the gov't sucked. It was harder for me to fit in because I'm such a free-spirit and I lasted about 4 years -too long. I'm so much happier now, I can raise my son myself, make the money that I need and persue my passion for creating.
I've applied for a position as a trail maker with the California Conservation Corp. I'll hear something back next month. It's my dream job. Living for six months in the wilderness with a group of folks out in nature.
I don't have a job as of currently. I went for a semester to college (county college) and did awful, decided I wasn't ready for it. So since I managed to fail 3 classes in high school due to apathy I have to go and take my GED, then I'll be looking for a job that I may have interest in. Here's hoping. Also, I plan to go back to college once I have a better idea of what I want to do.
I am in HVAC in Florida. It provides me with enough $$$ to live in comfort. It is a somewhat necessary evil : (
