If they try an original appeal and dont just stand and beg with a misspelled sign or try to strongarm me...I gave $$ to the first one I ever saw with a sign saying 'Why lie, I need a beer' but now it's too common...also had a guy jump outa the bushes and scare the beejeezus outa me in SF-you had to be there, it was funny as hell-gave him a buck and he went right into Hooters...I dont care what they do with it after I give it to them...
haha... I would totally chuck money at the first dude. (well in all reality I would probably laugh and walk on by.)
i used to sometimes. until i gave one some change out of my ashtray and as soon as i left my car he broke in and stole the entire ashtray. more often than not they're already fucked up when they come asking for money, so they don't really need to buy more drugs or beer at that point anyway.
I don't know what you mean. The first sentence was what I want to do but am too scared to. The second would be what I'd actually do.
I dont really care what they do with my money after I give it to them. I mean shit if i were in there position I would wanna get drunk or high too. It would comforting knowing that I might have gave them a few minutes of drunken/high semi-happyness where they can maybe forgot about the fact they dont have a home, even if its only a temporary feeling. But I'd also give them food if I any leftovers or something like that.
Like several others have said, I don't give them money but will buy them food. I have many times taken sacks of burgers or whatever to groups of homeless men ... without exception, they have been very appreciative and gracious to me. Not that I want a medal or anything, but it always helps if someone appreciates it when you do something for them. But having said that, I do think it's more productive to contribute to homeless shelters or shelters for abused women/children. They are better equipped to make the most of contributions and it's not so hit-and-miss.
