People who get hand outs or welfare for more than 6 months need to be handed a death certificate and a single bullet so that they don't drain the system any longer. This idea does not apply to retards though.

That doesn't solve the problem that Joker might at some point actually want to do something with his life for the sake of doing something with his life.

He has both arms, both legs. Full hearing and vision and an average IQ.

All he needs is an education or a trade, or something like music or art which he does in ways which bring in money e.g. not "well I jam and it's fun but hang on I need to cash this gubmint cheque"

He can contribute something. His balance in/out of society need not be measured in money. Society, through the disability insurance process, has determined that Joker does not need to perfom a paying job in order to get money. In time, he may see a way to get into the work/money exchange that most of us do. Until then, I would appreciate some kind of positive input to society.

    You can scam any process.

I don't know if Joker is a scammer. If he is, shaming and/or insulting him will change nothing. If he is not, I was offering a way that he could contribute. Perhaps the disability system should be different. But for this day and this thread, I gave my best advise to help this situation.

Some people can not be a part of the work for money system. Those people are the deserving disabled whose status the scammers take advantage of. Even the disabled can be a part of our society by contributing what they can, even if it isn't the kind of contribution that most of us need to make.

If that is the case, all our typing is in vain.

As per Joker's original point- yes. I have dumped guys before for being terminally unemployed. As romantic a notion as it is to have the freedom to be who you are, most people couldn't live on 600.00 a month, especially in a city.

Most girls dating men are searching for the one that they can spend the rest of their lives with. To me that means marriage, children, retirement and beyond. I chose one of those terminally unemployed men to have a child with, on faith that he would get better. He hasn't. Instead he moved on to another woman who will support him. And I have my son by myself with no support. Daycare around costs 400.00 a WEEK! I have been on the list to receive federally subsidized childcare since last October and they are estimating that I still have another year to go before my number comes up. I wasn't making enough working to survive. Welfare says that if you quit your job you get TANF until your child is 5. TANF and Food Stamps and Subsidized housing add up to over 1,400 a month. But that means that five years later you have no work history and have to start over at a dead-end job. So no go on that one. I am now self-employed and struggling a bit but happy. I have not bought groceries in a few weeks and there hasn't been milk in the fridge all week. But, things will pick up, I am working. Eventually I will be more comfortable. (I don't mean that to sound like we're starving, there are eggs and veggies, and beans, and rice and stuff to sustain us till I get paid for some overdue contracts)

That is why having a job is important for women. If I didn't have a college education I would be on welfare right now, partially because I picked a guy with no job to be the father to my kid.

I have a lot of friends with serious depression and other issues. I am probably am a tad bi-polar and have SAD in a major way. I have found that the more active you are the easier it is to stay even. There have been studies showing that exercise normalizes seratonin levels. I am not a doctor. I am not telling you how to live. But, I find that when I slack off and sit around for days I get depressed. Laziness is addictive.

Everyone who can work should. We have a responsibility to others to keep the world moving smoothly. I have a responsibility to my own family but I believe that I also have a responsibility to the old lady up the street, or the single mom with three kids, or the Vietnam Vet who lost both legs and his sanity. It's their money I would be taking if I went on the dole.

There is a job for everyone. Maybe you don't want to cut your hair. You don't have to. You are still young. (I took out my nose ring so I would look more professional but then I have more responsibilities than you do, Joker) Don't work in food service or at a store where they pressure you to be more establishment. Get a job loading a truck, a night job cleaning offices or schools, a job in a club or at a place like Hot Topic. If you can't find a real job try doing volunteer work, you will feel better about yourself. And, it needn't be frought with people. The Humane Society for example.

People aren't always cool. But they are one of the realities of living in this world. If you plan to play for crowds you should probably get used to them.

You can do it. Just have faith in yourself.

Er, no. He claims to be "bipolar" which is NOT an impediment to employment - many people with bipolar get jobs. His bigger problem is his OWN ADMISSION that he DOES NOT WANT TO WORK. That he can't stand being told to shave or get a haircut, that he doesn't want to be told what to do, and that because America is racist it owes him a living.

The line to marry this guy is to the left, ladies.

I am trying to get what joker has cause im sick of working for pathetic low paying jobs and i want to have my own apartment and go to a University. I am sick of people who get paid too much and don't do shit all day, that is called unequal distribution of wealth, and then some mexican busts his ass off all day for 6.00 an hour. Talk about being fair with wages. Im disgusted with people who dont do shit and get paid 100,000 a year, then u whine about jokers situation.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. With very few skills or not enough encouragement from friends and loved ones sometimes the 6.00 jobs are all some people can get. Sometimes people don't know how to manipulate the system of school and loans to gain skills.

Really, so if everyone "made the choice" to get higher pay, no one would be working these minimum wage jobs.

Tell me, where are all these new high paying jobs being created?

Do you truly believe that everyone is born on a completely level playing field?

What will happen with the rise in population, will the high paying jobs keep pace right on cue?

What about during a depression or recession, is it also people's fault for losing their jobs? Should they refuse to work below their abilities just so they don't have to do these lower paying jobs?

how about when a giant retailer comes into town and all the locally owned businesses go under? Will they decide to starve instead of taking the only available jobs in the area...at wal-mart?

These are some very very valid questions, Seamonster.

Personally, I believe that we could all do with paying slightly more for things and getting higher wages as a result. None of this offshoring-make-it-cheaply bull we're being shovelled.

I also think that people should have acceptable options at every salary level - that there be good affordable basic housing at the min wage price point (e.g. no crime ridden slums) etc.

However, that being said, every time you see someone highly paid you don't usually see the years of work that got em there. Yeah, I may slack every now and then, but I get the job done and I put in a LOT of unpaid overtime and dues getting here.

As for working below your abilities, yeah. There's a certain dignity in working at the Best Buy though you used to manage engineers, rather than stay at home all day whining that the dot com job no longer exists.

However, unless you are here illegally or have no drive, you can make it.

RE: Tell me, where are all these new high paying jobs being created?

Longshoremen in this city make more than doctors.

As for high paying jobs - let's see, high tech, healthcare, people can open stores and businesses, so long as you got a good idea or do a job really well, you can make phat ducats at anything. jesse james likes cars and bikes - he's made quite a bit of cash with it. See what i'm saying?

No, money don't come easy. but I'll say this - the only ones who are flossin without some serious work and sacrifice in the background are people like paris hilton.

obviously everyone isnt born on a level playing field, however there comes a point when you can no longer blame others for your "problems"
