I really like red wines and I am not a connoisseur of wines. I'm sure there is a validity to good wine tasting and all that pretentious sounding descriptions of flavours, but I just drink the red wine available and my criterion is not too sweet and not too dry. I consider wine just a beverage like food so no need to go all fancy with subtleties of flavor. I buy Carlo Rossi Paisano in the little jugs. It is a California Table Wine and does not have a vintage date. I just looked all over my jug and it doesn't even have an expiration date or "best by" date. The 1.5 litre jug costs $8 It meets my requirement of not too sweet and not too dry, plus it is only 11% alcohol instead of the usual 12 to 13%. Which means I don't get a buz off of it with the glass or two that I consume. BTW, I drink this wine at room temperature. I do not like chilled white wines and particularly don't like Champagne. (If I feel like having a cold bubbly, I'll get a beer) I have a glass of this red wine before supper, usually with some cheese and a glass with most meals. Since I love Italian food it goes really well with that. When having dinner with out of town guests I go to Olive Garden and get the house red wine, which I think is Chianti tastes much like this. I have even had home-made wine back in the '70s when everyone, including my aunt seemed to be doing it with Welches grape juice in a jug with a balloon on the top. The balloon would inflate (with carbon dioxide) and when it went back down the wine was ready. A friend and I would sit up most of the night drinking his homemade wine - and if you ever heard that thing in the Bible about new wine making you drunk, it is true. Apparently before ageing, wine has more of an alcohol content.
Shale, growing up, that brand of wine was always in the cabinet as a cooking wine. I didn't even know you could drink it as a table wine! Although I'm not sure why that possibility never occurred to me. The brand is apparently produced by Gallo, a big wine maker.
Perhaps but still give kudos to anyone who believes REDS are the best given our history with the indigenous native american people Hotwater
i knew a girl in college that would drink a jug of carlo rossi in a night! you know how people get purple stains ("wine mouth") when they drink a lot of (cheap) red wine? well her whole body would start to turn kinda purple... i used to drink home-made wine with some high school friends. their parents made it. and that stuff got you m-e-s-s-e-d up. my father in law made some batches of wine, and they seems pretty normal in their alcohol content.
the finger lakes region in NY state is kinda well known for their wines. they mostly make good white wines though. i guess our climate isn't the best for growing red grapes. and even though i don't like white wines very much, i did try a couple of decent ones. i seem to remember a wine called Arctic Fox
Well the bottle sure looks sweet, I'll be sure to try it out next I head up there, or if I come across it here
Over Xmas we had win for Christmas lunch, a red, and we also had a bottle of red with our friends a week earlier. Can't for the life of me remember the names but they weren't cheap and honestly I enjoyed them.
Did the wine turn on you? I almost bought wine to go with a steak dinner I made for vday but decided on a brown ale instead. I enjoyed it whereas generally with wine I'm just trying to enjoy it.
I find myself drinking a lot more wine when I'm visiting my parents. They've got a wine bottle for every family dinner.
humans are always whining about not being the center of the universe. human males in the dominant 'western' culture anyway. i've never gotten into a habit of consuming supposedly mind altering substances, as none of them have ever altered my mind i any way i have found to be useful to me. i have of course experienced several varieties of these. and of course wine is not primarily a mind altering substance anyway. more of a comfort fluid. it is neither brag nor apology, but simple fact, that years often go by between times i consume any.
I drink all types of wine but my favorite is the sweet white wine. I am not very picky so as long as it tastes good and it doesn't give me a headache next day, for me it is a good wine.
Nah, I just kinda forgot about it. I guess it was only a three month long phase. Like my gay phase back in 9th grade
I love drinking wine. Wine culture has definitely changed in the last 20 years. It used to be something only classy, upscale, and upper class people drank. Now people from all walks of life are sipping it. Grapes and finials are being planted all over the place and they are popping up like crazy. It used to be something you only found in Napa Valley. Now you see vineyards and wine makers all up and down the west coast.
I very rarely drink these days, but I'll have an occasional glass of wine(mainly dry red). I prefer bourbon or beer if I'm drinking more than a glass or two though.
