It's stupid to think Earth is the only planet with sentient life.

Probably if it's safe

 

A quarter of the population believes the sun revolves around the earth, and it's stupid to assume earth has sentient life.

Seriously, if you could go anywhere in the universe you wanted, earth would be a rest stop, with a condemned bathroom.

 

I believe in England. I believe in the Congo. I believe in Australia, I believe in Micronesia. I have not seen any of these places, but I could prove to myself that they actually DO exist ( if I wanted) by going to them. Now , on the other hand------I have no way of addressing the questions asked. Therefore --no --how can I believe in something with zero proof of viability? The nearest I can come to belief in the above mentioned , are UFOS.

Have you ever read the short story, "The Machine Stops". ?

 

I saw some of the congressional hearings on the subject. It's still in my maybe pile. I just find it hard to believe that the world Govt have managed to prevent any physical evidence from the public of some 8 billion people. That's an amazing task on its own, and yet the American Govt can't even keep its debts paid down nor can it's employees even perform with the same effectiveness as the laziest factory worker. That's like asking staff at a restaurant to not leave any shred of evidence of food behind day after day for decades on end.

 

The interesting part, is although it was published in 1927, it was first penned by EM Forester in 1909, the detail seemed years ahead of that time.
I had to do a line by line analysis of the story for my English literature exam in the mid 1960s and it raised interesting questions regarding the author. These included the possibility of him having extra terrestrial knowledge. The story has an uncanny resemblance to recent theories about past life on Mars and its demise.

My dream would have been an audiobook recorded by Richard Burton, similar to Under Milkwood.

 

I think they exist, know of us, but we're a "quarantine" planet - "do not approach the primitives"

 

Well we now know that alien life literally rains down upon our planet constantly. What survives and flourishes is another story.
