dude, a lot of people use it just because its illegal and they think it makes them look cool, so that would get rid of a lot of poser smokers if it was legalized. Also, someone made a very good point saying that dealers sell other things. If some of the more ignorant people see that pot is not bad and it is legal, then they may be tempted to try other things the dealer is selling, like coke and herion, things that can seriously fuck you up. A lot of people have givin up on America and moved to canada or amsterdam, and if it is not decriminilized federally in the next 5 years, I may just do that myself

^^nah dude thats totally completely wrong. think about it like this.... whats harder to get? legal beer or illegal weed. for me its much harder to get beer than to call up a friend and get weed. and just because drugs are legal doesnt mean more people would do them.... hobos already do drugs, why would legalizing them all of a sudden kill them all? and if you dont snort coke now, chances are its because you dont want to... not because you cant find any. shit i could go down to canal street and get anything i want... nothing is stopping me... why would i buy heroin if its in a store as opposed to the guy i buy weed from? legalization would clear out prisons, reduce crime, and make drugs much much safer to do and sell.

I believe European countries will have a more tolerant attitude than the kick in the door mentality of the drug war infested United States. No politician here is going to go on record as being soft on drugs because it is political suicide for the candidate who takes this position and that is why the two? parties will not subscribe to it. I call them the republocrats anyway because there is very little difference in how they conduct the drug war. That is why I vote Libertarian because they have a saner approach and that is the legalization of marijuana.

Most overdoses are because people don't know what is in their street drugs. No clue what they are cut with, what strength the substance is, and therefore does not know what would be a safe dose. Most overdoses are, orinically, due to drugs being illegal and therefore misinformed drug users are buying shitty street drugs.

Of course, legalisation of substances such as heroin would need heavy regulating. But it would work a lot better than the system at the moment. Sure, there would still be bad cases - like alcohol. But the education would be there.

Agreed. Prohibition doesn't work for shit. Right now, we're suffering the same effects of alcohol prohibition (1920-1933). Banning more substances won't help anything!

 

You could always ban dealing heroin but not possession, similar to the cannabis laws in the UK. That way it's still reasonably hard to get hold of, but you can go to the police if they are contaminating it or ripping you off or whatever. There doesn't have to be an outright ban or outright legalisation either.
