how did bare feet get to be thought of 'disgusting' anyways? i don't see what's so gross about not wearing shoes-it's not like it's touching anything except the ground. if you think about it, you're hands are more disgusting-think of all the places they've been: in you're nose, coughing and sneezing on them, scratching your ass/crotch/armpits. and you go to the grocery store, and what do you touch the products with? not you're feet. what's the point of wearing flip flops? all that separates your feet from the ground is a thin piece of material. although i can see the point of employees wearing shoes for protection (i work at mcdonald's-lots of grease spills!) i think customers should have the right to choose.

nearly all kinds except being assaulted. i've been kicked off, laughed at, more or less politely asked about the matter, indicated by finger, warned about lots of risks, heard people 'whispering' or just plain yelling about me, i attracted the attention of children, frightened parents, gave reasosn of suspect to policemen, pissed off so-called friends, etc,.

I didnt find a place where access was denied to me because bf (but just because they didnt realize) nor the police bothered me because of bf motorcycling. I never was able to induce someone to BF'ing, too. and that's all.

But it doesn't have to be this way. There are so many who are into this dirty sole thing, and quite possibly it's mostly guys. I've spoken of this before. I really believe the dirty look hurts us in public. Just as many public places contribute to the dirty look. Also, a double standard can't work.

You're right. This has been brought up before. No answer is given for it. Your feet have little chance of spreading the same disgust that your hands do. It's a perceived grossout, and a thing that feeds control freaks.

I'd have to say it's because of the smell and sweat that usually accompanies feet. That's when we have to say BF don't sweat, therefore, don't smell either. Some people just have a foot phobia and can't explain their reasons.

People have been indoctrinated by the (false!) signs saying bare feet are forbidden by the Health Department; in countries that don't have this myth, including the rest of the Western world, most people aren't disgusted by bare feet either. Many people here even believe barefooting is healthy. Yes, they're still misinformed, they still believe it's cold and uncomfortable, but unhealthy or dangerous? No, I only get those kind of comments very, very occasionally.

Also, dirt on your feet is visible, dirt on your hands isn't. For many of us, what we don't see doesn't exist; while many/most people know to wash their hands after using the restroom & before dinner, few people think twice about what's on doorknobs, shopping carts, money, etc... Now most of the time it's not going to hurt you anyhow, our bodies can deal with a lot of germs, but *if* we're going to get sick, then yes, it's far more likely we've picked it up with our hands rather than with our feet! However because we didn't see those germs, and our feet are grey, brown or black, many people think it must've been those 'dirty soles'.

The bottom of your barefeet and the bottom of a pair of shoes will pretty much have the same kind of dirt!!

I'll never understand the shoddy mentality.

    Go figure.

But if you were going to be trying on shoes with dirty feet, then she had a point. Because they wouldn't want all the dirt to get in their nice new shoes if you weren't definately buying them.

when you try new shoes, even if you have shoes already, doesnt mean you dont have a disease as mushrooms and they dont always seen, and even with socks they can transmit another who will try those shoes after you..
    so thats very nasty.
    bare foot is good.
but i wont do it in cities, cause its really bad for health, with all the junlies that spit on the flour, and all shit there is.
I will fear for my health.
also people with shoes go places like toilets and maybe to throw the trash, and those places are fill with dangerous bacteries.
And worse palce are hospital and supermarked and staying in line at the pharmacy.
If you want to catch a killing disease, just go one of those places for one hours, and 3 days later you will be dead sick.
the aircondition system simply suck all those bactose in their filters and they can stay there playing pocker together and brewing for 3 -4 years before the filters get clean up..
so kids get all kind of strange disease fom that and adults too, like legionar disease, that kill you for sure an no vaccine are known agaisnt it.
It is call legions disease cause that was legionar that died of it first, after having been in a store with airconditions which filtered had not been removed each year, buit stayed there for 3 years without being cleaned, it makes a milkshake of bacteries an is lethal.
I clean my shoes under when i get home, if i have been such place, and never walk inside mny home with shoes i had on when outside.
but barefooted in nature in alright.
also i prefer to walk on my bf back to massage him instead..
which take me to the point that bf means both boyfriend and bare footed.
adn when a friench like me knows when what is what?
american make too many shortening of words now a day.

We always run across the rude people around Christmas time. I went shoppping years back with my mom. My mother was there first to get the parking spot. Well, this man thought it was his. She parked and the jerk went to park somewhere else. He walked fast to catch up to us, as we were walking up to the door. He told my mom.. bitch, you took my parking spot. My mom said.. I was there first. He wanted to still say something..when I said ..sorry, sir, we didn't see the reserve for asswhole sign.
The man shut up and we went inside. My mother started laughing her azz off at me.
She said..I won't tell your father, but you are just like him. lol

I don't like wearing any shoes. To tell ya the truth. I would go everywhere that way, if I could. No shirt on too.

Lets face it its just what you learn from an early age that becomes 'the norm.' Not rocket science i know but my point is that we all wear footwear to protect our feet from pain/irritation etc and so if u 'dont' u are considered naked, (at least your feet are naked).
Only those who actually find feet attractive would have 'no problem' with seeing your feet. Everyone else is just like, "mate; put your feet away."

On my side of the pond i never see anyone walking BF around a department store/petrol station. Which obviously means one thing.. i am moving to AMERICA!! mwhahaha

    Move to America? Nah

America is probably worse then England. You don't see many people here barefoot and you also get thrown out of places.

Depends on where you live in America. Growing up on the Left Coast my whole life, I've only been approached about being barefoot a handful of times, and it's never confrontational. There are a lot of places one can live in this country and not get hassled too much (Santa Cruz, California comes to mind where the entire town has a "beach" mentality). Even here in Seattle, people see it more as a curiosity more than an irritant - I get some strange looks splashing through puddles either bare or in my flops, but that's usually as far as it goes. I've never had anyone make a scene thankfully - although I don't barefoot it nearly as frequently as a lot of the others on this forum...but from my little experiences here and growing up in California, I think that there's certainly more barefoot acceptance in certain parts of the country.
