It is often assumed that if someone is homeless it is due to their own inefficiencies. That is not always the case. Not everyone you see on the street is there because of an addiction. What angers me is society's reaction.

It is not homeless people themselves that make me sick. It is the fact that they are homeless that leaves me feeling ill. Knowing that there are people in the streets and there is only so much I can do about it churns my stomach. If I had to pick a role model, I would say Mother Theresa.

Yeah, Mother Teresa was really cool. I read a book about her where she used to literally pick up sick people from the street (when she was still really young), and wait all day in a hospital until a doctor would finally agree to help out. But I don't think there will ever be anyone like that again. And certainly not in this country. Most folks just seem to have become totally indifferent to the problem.

    Peace,

    ~PD

That's awesome. I wonder who she was? Do you remember her name, or what the title of the documentary was? I'd like to see that one.

    Peace,

I'm a project worker in a hostel for the homeless.....full of human beings, just like you and me. They all have their own problems, whether it be alcoholism, drug addiction, mental health issues. Some have none of the above - their only problem is they don't have a HOME. We have people staying at the hostel from the age of 19 up to 80 years of age.

You just have to imagine how you would feel in that position. No one is immune - it could happen to you one day. No point being all high and mighty about it ("I have a job, I am sensible, I'm not a loser" etc, etc). No one knows what the future holds.

i have empathy....i have given money before...and i am far from rich myself...
i dont know the situation there, but inmy county i thinkit is a choice whether to be homeless or not....but i still help when i can and have had discussions with homeless ppl myself...
however, ifit comes to humor...im going to have a laugh...
and i do not laugh at retarded people or those less fortunate...i just really actually meant that some homeless people do have the same facial characteristics - bone structure and the beards, etc...
    anyway....bblaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

Wasn't having a crack at you or anything when I posted.......I kinda agree with your statement about facial characteristics. Probably got alot to do with how much crack or scag they've been on throughout their lives (the whole cheekbone thing). :)
