As a person who could be considered homeless (I live on the road) and mentally ill, here's what I have to say about homlessness and mental illness. Ok, so here's sanity. Believe the bullshit you're fed in school and the narrow, shallow, glossy bullshit you get from Hollywood, get some bullshit job making the rich richer while supporting the rape of the planet, all in the name of profit or thrills or entertainment or gluttony or whatever your industry happens to be about, spend the majority of your waking hours slaving, be indentured to a host of banks, credit card companies, landlords, car dealers, etc, celebrate each holiday in the prescribed fashion on the precribed date, utter the canned platitudes for each holiday, etc, etc, and one day if you're lucky you can retire at 65 and live in a trailer park. If such a life seems dreadful to you, drink more caffiene, more sugar, and if that doesn't work, prozac or lithium. So those of us who say, wait a minute, I can't do that, and prove they can't, are labled mentally ill. I can't tolerate the bullshit that is 'normal' sane life in North America. It makes me violently angry. So I'm crazy. Good. I like living on the road. You all can keep sanity.
I wonder if I have ever had flounder before? If I did, it certainly wasn't this good or I would have remembered
No, man. I liked a lot of what you said. The best way to help the homeless is to buy a newspaper from 'em when they're selling it in front of the Safeway or whatever. They get to keep seventy-five cents on every dollar. And they are supposed to have a badge on with their pic, to prove they really are working for a homeless newspaper. I just think the system sucks now. The way we deal with mental illness. If you are really poor and a mental case in this country, then you are just totally fucked. But buying a paper from a homeless person really can help. I have seen folks get off the streets, and even give up (or else ease up) on their addictions and everything. So it really is helping out. And I think it's the safest way (so you know they're not just trying to con you) to begin working on the problem. Peace, ~PD
Actually, that happens quite a bit. It's considered a sport to soak homeless dudes with lighter fluid, and drop a match on 'em while they're sleeping (by one or two really creative high school kids). Something like that happened in Seattle not all that long ago. Ever been to the Pacific Northwest? LOL. Peace, ~PD
I never talk about your father. Hey, wasn't Sharon Tate pregnant before Charlie ordered the kill? Do you suppose..... well, I guess that might be stretching it a bit, huh? WTF? LOL. Peace, ~PD
I'm glad to hear. it. You have a big heart. It is a shame that so many folks that fought for this country are being left out in the cold (now that they are "home" again). Let's hope that something like that doesn't happen to the new ones defending America now. I mean, the ones that actually make it home alive. I just heard another news item about a 22 year old dude that gave up a promising journalism career so he could fight in the war. He was killed less than 6 months after. (His young wife is pregnant with his child). I think it's a totally tragic story. Cuz he wanted to help out (as he perceived it). He didn't have to go. But sad stuff like that happened to young dudes in Vietnam all the time. Maybe war isn't the best answer? Peace, ~PD
No dude. That was the Beatles. They were into the Peace and Love thang big time. So I don't think you are related? LOL. Peace, ~PD
No, man. Not most. But there are a few bad apples for sure. I've worked with these homeless folks for around 5 years now, so I get to see them in action. As far as the free medical and food stamps? WTF? You do know that Bush is slowly but surely taking all those services away, huh? Like big time. That's why there are even more of those so-called homeless scammers out on the streets now. Because they have lost their subsidized apartments, food stamps, SSI checks, blah blah blah. Plus there are fewer shelters now, and many of the ones still open are totally unsafe and dangerous. A lot of folks with TB, lice, scabies, and ex-cons with with way violent histories, etc. And in a lot of places it is illegal for a homeless person to even sit on a park bench for more than an hour. So chronically mentally ill folks are getting desperate. Anyways, I still say all we gotta do to really help out (and be sure we're not getting scammed) is just buy a homeless paper from a street vendor whenever we can. It only costs a buck. Or else direct the next homeless person you see to the nearest homeless newsroom. There's one in practically every city now. And they can earn an honest buck that way, and regain some of their pride. So just those two things there can really help out a lot. Cuz the government sure don't seem to care. So we might as well try to fix the problem ourselves (or else put up with the mentally ill homeless turning our parks into a makeshift bedroom). Peace, ~PD
Right on! The voice of reason at last. Yeah, it's a pretty common thang, sad to say. I mean, homeless folks are beaten (or burned to death) by bored high school/college kids more often than you might think. And homeless girls and women are actually raped by middle class gangsta wannabes (or else they're assaulted by other homeless dudes). But it doesn't get a lot of attention. We rather listen to Bush pretend to be the second coming of Christ or something. LOL. I think it's cool that you are willing to understand. And I don't think that anybody in their right mind would CHOOSE to be homeless. WTF? Something's gotta be seriously wrong with a person before they are reduced to that. So they need to be helped more than hurt. And there's just not all that much help available anymore. And it's only getting worse. I like your generous attitude a lot. Folks like you are gonna make this world a much better place. So listen up, people! LOL. Peace, ~PD
But you know what is really scary? The part of downtown where I am at is not a slum at all. A way small studio apartment around here can easily cost you close to $650. And the 1 bedrooms can go all the way up to $900. And I am starting to see a lot of homeless folks around here now. I don't even wanna think about what the slum area of town is like. But yeah, I totally know what you mean. I used to live in a really bad hood like that in Chicago. I mean, every time you left your apartment, you never knew if you were gonna make it back alive. Peace, ~PD
well actually it wasnt the slums it was just bad coz they were there, the apartment next to the school was a massive million dollar high rise and the rooms were damn expensive i even got to go in one coz my friend knew the people there but yeah they tried to violate me but yeah
